Help me build my computer!

So,

I have $1600 to $2000 to work with. I want to build the best computer I can build. The only real things I'm sure I want are:

Coolermaster HAF 932 Case
Intel i7 processor
nVidia for video

The rest is really up in the air. I used to build and repair computers for work, but have been several years out of that line of work, and I'm not really sure what the best parts are anymore or what is worth spending extra money on and what is not.

Some additional considerations:

I would like to get at least one 24" Widescreen flat screen with this rig. Ideally something with 50,000:1 static contrast ratio. Whatever I get, I will get a 2nd of the same model in a few months, so I want to go with something nice.

I will also be picking up an Intel based SSD in about six months ... just want to let the prices keep coming down before I go there.

I don't have to be SLI out of the gate. I can go with an older DX10 card, and then when the 480 cards have been perfected and come down in price in a year or so, I can get two of them and give my wife whatever I get now.

So ... with that said ... should I build this myself? Or would I be better having some place put together a rig for me? If I do build it myself, what specific bits of hardware should I go with? I want the most bang for my buck.

nVidia is a pretty bad choice right now.

I wouldn't just say bad, but actually pretty awful. You can get an ATI card that preforms the same for a hell of a lot cheaper, and it won't consume nearly as much power.
