    Two/Three options:
    1. Get a corded 360 controller. Plug it in. Done.
    2. Get a wireless controller (or use one you already have) get a usb wireless adapter for the controllers. (bonus, works with multiple controllers iirc)
    3. Get a play-n-charge kit. I'd want to double-check, but I'm all but certain that the cable will make a wireless controller with a PC.

I think all the play-n-charge cord does is charge the battery. Even when it's plugged in, the controller is still operating as a wireless controller so I wouldn't count on that working.

Yeah, the play and charge kit only charges the controller. You'll still need the wireless receiver for it to work.

You need a Microsoft Wireless Receiver. I've owned two--the first one worked flawlessly for three years, before abruptly dying. They work through multiple walls, at a distance of about 35 feet at least.

They're tricky to get, most of what you see sold online are knock-offs. The knock-offs probably still work, but be wary. The major difference is that authentic Microsoft receivers say "MICROSOFT" while the knock-offs say "Xbox 360". The knock-offs also come in different packaging and in a wider range of colors (black, etc.). The originals are only white.

The wireless receiver also works with multiple Xbox 360 controllers. I would presume no more than four, since I've never tested it with more than four.

    lame. :S
Well, two options then. buy corded controller. buy wireless adapter.
Personally, i use a corded controller, so i don't have to deal with charging the adapter (the xbox charger is in another room, i'm lazy, etc. :) Works with pretty much anything.

Added bonus with the wireless receiver: the wireless headset *also* works (if you can even find them, they're as tricky to find as the receiver is sometimes :) )

Also, if you have one of those fancy shmancy 360 arcade sticks, those work too

I have a corded 360 pad I use for XNA development, but it's a hassle to pick and move with my laptop on account of the long-ass cord. I looked at the PC wireless ones, but it's wireless in the sense that you have to plug in a receiver... which has a huge cord.

Ashridah, is the USB adapter you mentioned the same as what I'm talking about? Or just something dongle sized?

It's the one you're talking about.
For some stupid reason, the cable is like 6 feet.
and yes, that is annoying. That's why I pretty much just use a corded controller for PC gaming. (I don't have to move my rig very often, so it's not that big of a deal usually)

I don't know if third party ones exist that are smaller, sorry.
