Anyway, there's just been an election don't y'know. Some dreadful oiks (Gordon Something? And that Clegg fellow, went to Westminster I believe, terribly second rate at Latin so I'm told) were thoroughly defeated by the wonderful David Cameron. Unfortunately, some terrible skullduggery has resulted in the blossoming of a beautiful romance...

The closet in which the government has been lurking has been found to be surprisingly full of DAMNED LIBERAL DEMOCRATS and not as many Etonians as expected(this is disappointing); however, the important jobs went to old boys (cheers cheers).

    Actually, the fair trial provisions were much, much weaker, and the binding of other public bodies besides the court similarly so. I really don't think you've done your research properly.

    Another serious point which is increasingly becoming a problem is the argument by some activists that the HRA / ECHR binds us into not having dealings with any countries which do not conform to the standards in HRA / ECHR. This is, frankly, unworkable. You've probably heard of organisation bringing lawsuits to argue we shouldn't work with Afghanistan, Pakistan etc for these reasons, and may well agree. You probably wouldn't be quite so happy that the logical extension to their argument is that legally we should cut government aid to pretty much all of Africa as well.
    Theoretical arguments yet to be tested in court are no basis for repealing anything.

    I'm afraid you need something a bit more substantial than the wild claims above. Try doing your own research into HR law isnetad of just believing the media.

    The door has to be opened from the inside. No external handle. So those are just the porter guys to open it.

    There is a policeman on the door. I'm sure he knows what he's doing.

    Seriously though, all power to the Coalition and a restoration of Gladstonian Britain.

    Also, the HRA - I have yet to see a detailed legal argument, as opposed to an opinion piece in a newspaper or on TV, that raises convincing argument against it. Can anyone give me a link to some academic articles on the pros or cons of the HRA? I ideally would like a detailed, reasoned argument with reference to examples

    Although it doesn't really make a whole lot of difference they've changed the total needed for a vote of 'no confidence'.

    (it's now harder, if you hadn't already guessed)

    Old: 50% of MPs + 1 extra MP
    New: 55% of MPs
