[Solved] Can't find why my hard drive is so full

Gonna start by saying I'm not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to computers.

A couple months back a friend reinstalled Vista for me after I got a new motherboard and processor. I didn't bother uninstalling my fairly large number of games from my computer, because I figured they'd just get wiped on the new install. Turns out he just reinstalled over the old one, taking up huge amounts of space. After some looking and doing, I went into disk cleanup and figured out how to delete old windows installs, giving me what I assumed was all of that space back.

So earlier today I'm going through and deleting a couple large games I'm not going to be coming back to, and the space isn't adding up. I've got ~50 gb of games but I'm using ~150 gb of my hard drive. So I do a search for files larger than a gb, and one of them that shows up is audio from a fraps video from the old install, which I thought I killed with the disk cleanup.

So what exactly is going on? How do I free up more room, because using 100 gb before games just doesn't sound right.

    http://windirstat.info/

This will give you a visualization and detailed description of whats taking up room on your HDD. I find it quite useful, perhaps you will too.

Windirstat should help you find out what's hogging all your HD space.

According to that program, I'm using 80 gb, and everything looks right. Under computer properties, it says the used space is 150 gb.

edit: and no, I only have one drive.

I don't really understand what you mean when you say "he just reinstalled over the old one." Did you have two instances of vista on the same drive partition, or did your friend create a new one?

The same one, I think? I've never messed with partitioning, so I don't know anything about it.

edit: So checking the internets for more info, it looks like I just have the one partition.

Do you have a bunch of restore points and drive backups? That can be the problem.

Apparently I had 66 gigs of them. I used this info to lower how much it stores, and that accounts for everything.

    Thanks for the help.
