So I just watched Mystic River

And I'm coming away from it disappointed. I remember this film being praised as the greatest film of the year and such, but never heard much beyond it being a Clint Eastwood film and Sean Penn starring in it. I never even knew what it was about. It's not a bad movie, but it's not a good movie either. I feel like I could've watched an episode of CSI and had more or less the same story.
Fucking movie hype, man.
So what movies have you guys watched because everyone was like "Oh man it's great" and then thought it was shit or just let down?
oh the "post things other people enjoy which you do not" thread. my favorite
i look forward to 99 more pages of fruitful discussion
We could just focus on Mystic River, and how not every film turns to gold when Clint Eastwood is involved with it. Or Sean Penn.
The fucking scene where the guy is talking to his wife about vampires or some shit was like... For a second there, I honestly thought it was going to be like SURPRISE BITCH BITE BITE BITE.

As for the topic, so many films
But I think the biggest example is Raging Bull
are you like some sort of fool
Why you gotta make me hit you
I haven't seen Godfather yet, but there is no way it can live up to all the hype society has built up around it. I am pre-emptively disappointed.
The Godfather though... It's okay by me. I can definitely see why people wouldn't like it though. It's long as shit too.
That's exactly what I thought when Kusu responded about Raging Bull
And I responded to JAEF
Misery loves company, man. That's why I'm here with it.
GAHHHHHH
you have bad tastes
it's like a movie from our time!
because it set forth almost every modern convention filmmakers use
Well, he is Jewish.
seriously, watch it once on your own
then watch it in an intro to film studies class and have a professor explain some of the significance to you
it amazes me just how much thought went into that film
2 Hours of boring and 10 minutes of an acid trip.

mediocre bunch of films, really
"IS THAT MAH DOUGHTAR IN THAAAR"
and I didn't like it very much
But I don't like Sean Penn very much anyway, so maybe that was just me

You know what I think it all comes from?
Getting an actor of some renown to cry on film, and bam, actor of the year award.
Objectively
So everyone who doesn't like it shut up or stand over there against that wall with all the bullet holes

i liked it but "best comedy of all time"? i don't think so
Hey we agree on something for once!
I'll end that right quick: I don't dig Big Trouble in Little China at all
I've seen plenty of actors cry and been "man this dude is pretty good"
But Sean Penn's performance was the exact opposite of subtle and heartfelt
Maybe that is the fault of the script or something, I don't know, but I blame him because as previously stated I don't like him very much

But do you have an asshole?
yeah i mean everyone knows the best comedy of all time is dumb and dumber
other acceptable answer: wayne's world.
Whoa dude, like, whoa.
There's people that have something fucking wrong with them, and then there's you.
It was like 1.5 hours boring to 40 minute acid trip.
