[D&D4E: Encounters] Newbie Dark Pact Warlock advice.

I had not played D&D (tabletop) since bout 2nd edition, but I decided to give the weekly game at my local store a try. I decided i wanted to play a warlock, and wasnt very clear on the details so i fired up the official character builder and picked something that sounded nice without having the full manuals and books available to me to get into the details. it didnt sound like that part mattered since the campaign would not likely progress me very far. I picked a Dark Pact lock, as i liked the idea of darkspiral aura. I also picked a Changling as the race just because it sounded pretty cool (and the racial bonuses fit with my Darklock desired stats).

My first level character had Eldrich blast and Spiteful Glamour, Darkspiral aura and cursebite, and my daily was curse of the dark dream.

I just hit level 2 and had a chance to do some further research before progressing. I still like dark pact, but retrained my daily to be 'your glorious sacrifice' because my characters nature is to be a sarcastic jokester with a little streak of sadism in him and this seems like a perfect fit. (last week we fought a beholder and when i bloodied it and then later got the killing blow it caught just about every other character in the party in both agony bursts except me....I sniggered both times).

I also picked shadow embrace(i think thats the name..its the one that lets me teleport 3 squares then have a +2 to defense due to insubstantial buff for a turn) as my utility power but im a little on the fence with this one...I like the idea that i can buff my defenses but am unclear on the rules. When i use this does this stack with my shadowwalk concealment buff making me at a +4 all defenses for the turn or does it stay at +2? if its a max of +2 then i think id be better with the power that if im hit, i get to teleport and do my int bonus in damage to the attacker.

I have an impliment rod, but im looking to see what i should try and go for next in terms of magic items. I like the quickcurse rod as it removes my restriction of only cursing the closest target, but ive seen FAQ's mention the corruption rod? which i cant really see the full benefits of so i think im missing something.

Also, a faq i read mentioned skill powers....how do these work? I trained in bluff, intimidate, and arcane, do i need to use a feat to gain these? the character builder didnt seem to give an option for these.

My first feat was impliment(rod) for the + 1 to attack, the second i havent decided on but was thinking of going with the +1 to damage while concealed one. A FAQ mentioned something about superior imp training but that wasnt an option on the builder so im not sure if im just not high enough level for it to show up or not.

Suggestions for improvement are appriciated.

Nah, I think it's just that people didn't notice the thread. We have a DnD 4e Discussion thread, try asking over there.
