Anyway this is a good thread for talking about the creative things you are working on, and perhaps ask questions and give people answers/tutorials on how to do near things using some of the aforementioned software. Or even if you don't use any of this fancy technological stuff and do your stuff traditionally using pencil or poo on a stick.
I might be using Audition, possibly Ableton for my forum battling.
I use Illustrator and Photoshop a load for school stuff (I'm the guy in charge of making fliers and shit for everything).
Trying to learn InDesign so I can do school newspaper stuff next year.
I recently finally learned to use Propellerhead Reason for more than really dinky additions to recordings and compositions(for instance, it's drums are about a billion times better than Finale). I learned to use it in quite possibly the worst way imaginable. I made a really terrible and simple techno-ish song.
I really want to get Photoshop CS5, just to mess around with that new touchup feature thing, though, past that there really isn't any reason for me to get it, CS2 still works just fine for me.
I am currently filming a short about the Series Finale of Lost, but filming last night didn't go so well, so I am not sure it will turn out nearly as good as I would have hoped
I'll be filming and editing a whole bunch for the Forum Battle. I will also be using Reason and Ableton Live for the music I will likely create

One of the neat things about my school is that we always get to fool around with this stuff a few months before it comes out, and for my particular program I get most of Adobe's software for free.
I've been slowly learning the inner workings of REAPER , been using the Drumkit from Hell VST and I hope to get a POD Studio UX1 soon so I can record guitars and vocals into REAPER, totally digital.

Audacity is fucking great
we used it for our senior design project in college to get tons of data points from a single period of a recorded sound wave, then used those points in our code to make a keyboard synthesizer

Oh god the newest version of Windows Movie Maker is so fucked.
The changes they made are damn near ridiculous.
I guess they thought the old version was too difficult, so they completely removed any sort of timeline feature...they just completely butchered it.
Does it still crash if you so much as look at it too hard?
Also, does anyone know of decent freeware video editing software for windows? I'd like to add some other entries to the OP, I pretty much only use Premiere myself.
The new, borked version of WMM is on the left...the old version, which I still use, is on the right.
What you see on the left is as in depth as the editing tools get.
Apparently stacking thumbnails like .jpegs as a means of showing the order of your clips is more user friendly than an extremely simple time line (right).
edit: I should note that I use Adobe Premiere at work...

Do you mean, does it sometimes freeze when I click to...say...SAVE or publish?

Yes.
Yeah, that was such an incredible pain in the ass. I remember trying to use the double-speed filter at times, and it would work just well enough for you to do it once, then save the project. Any action you would take after that would cause it to crash. Sometimes it would just crash anyway before you could save, or as it was trying to accelerate the video.
I need to create some time-lapse looking video, so I had to compress the video, accelerate the clip, publish the individual clip, crash the program, then re-import the clip again. Over and over again until I got the clip to the length I needed.

Have you tried Lightroom? It's supposed to be really good for managing large amounts of photos.

it's working.

Really? I think it's pretty swell, and I use both it and Final Cut extensively. What don't you like about it?

No.
The best you can really get is Gimpshop, and that's still a nightmare to use from a usability standpoint.

I don't think you're going to find anything free that's really useful. Might as well spring for Vegas or Final Cut Express.
