    set the services to manual instead of automatic? I don't use printers, and so I disabled spool entirely as a service which actually saved me some memory.

    hmm, I disabled a lot of services and my netbook still outputs to a monitor--you can see the option to change something from automatic to manual if you go to the control panel, then administration, services.
