Be careful you're not getting an older model when you buy used.
Honestly, pony up and get one new. I wouldn't trust a used 360 unless they have receipt proof that it's from the past year.
Don't forget that there was a batch of 360's permanently banned from xbox live for cheating about 6 months ago. There's no way to spot those without testing them.

And the estimates ran between 500,000 and 1m console bans too, so there are a lot out there.
Thanks for the heads up. I'll look at a new one then.
shop around... dell has sales every few months for about $150-180 for a new arcade... and you can often find a refurb hard drive pack for cheap to expand an arcade unit into a fully usable xbox
Yeah, the elite is pretty much the best one to get, the newer one cause it has a more reliable chip-set.
And I know what you mean, I was a PC and Playstation only kinda guy, but got my 360 a few months back and heven't looked back ^^ I strongly advise the Mass Effect and Fable games

Yeah, be careful where you buy from (that applies to any console).
I was under the distinct impression that Xbox 360s were no longer sold without hard drives since the most recent price drop (or a bit after). Guess I was wrong?
Anyway, keep an eye out for deals from Dell and the like. Also, HDMI cables are $6 off Amazon, save yourself $44 this way.
Never buy a used system, especially a used 360. Every modern generation of consoles has had some spectacular kind of failure error that crops up eventually, buying used just isn't worth the risks.
The current crop of 360 bundles is pretty good, $300 for games + system + harddrive is probably about as good a deal as you'll get.

And no worries...my PC gaming will continue on. I prefer the input for it.
Mass Effect was indeed a good game.
