Yay. Finally got a rush shard that didn't turn into an ironsword+ or some other useless junk...

It was a bowgun. Aquamatic spark I think was the name. I've been thinking about giving bowgun a whirl. Maybe it's time I try it out.

At the moment the trading post lady online is trading 5 sharpened fangs for 2 hydro hides and 5 honeys for 1 sharpened fang. I had about 100 hydro hides and traded 50 of them so I now have 625 honey in storage. Never have to worry about that again. :P

Here is some very useful information about the lag and why certain attacks miss sometimes. Also really good for hammer users to know.
The first person into the room where an active boss monster is, or the first person to get the attention of an inactive boss monster when people are already in the room, becomes the 'host' for that monster. They are the only one who does not have some amount of lag for the main monster. What that means is, if you are not the area 'host' (which can change at any time, according to the parameters I've set above), you will have issues doing several things, depending on the severity of your latency issue. Some of these things include:

Hitting the area of the monster you're aiming at. Only the hits that the HOST of the area sees will count towards that monster. That means that if on your screen, you managed to triple pound the head of Rathian before she flew away, for example, but on the HOST screen she was already in the air, your hits did not count. You need to be aware of who is hosting and how much latency you have with that person, because in cases like that you might have to think ahead and hit what looks like empty air to you.

KO/Stunning a monster. I'm sure many of you have noticed, but you might land a hit on the head, roll away, and then see the monster fall over with KO, or landed a paralyze hit, rolled out, and noticed that the status got inflicted a second after your attack. Again, this is latency at work.

Paintballs and Tranqs. They only take effect if the HOST SCREEN shows the paintball or tranq hitting the monster. Normally this isn't a problem if you use stun traps, however pitfall traps or chance can cause what looks like a hit on your screen to be a miss on the host end. It happens OFTEN. It's always best to let the person with the tranqs be the first person in the area and the first person to attack the monster.

Bowgun shots. Like above, the shots may be missing entirely if you're not the host and you're not thinking ahead.

Here are a few things you can do to improve your game, now that you know how things work.

Always let the hammer user into the room first. It might seem like a little thing, but the hammer user relies entirely on hitting a relatively small part of the monster that moves around a lot. Being the host and having 0ms lag will GREATLY increase the Hammer user's ability to inflict KO on a monster, making things easier on everyone.

Be wary of high lag hosts. If someone is extremely high lag as a host, the monster may behave erratically, from teleporting around an area to idling between moves. One particularly annoying manifestation of lag is when monsters idle between moves, then go immediately into an attack without showing the tell. This can cause a lot of problems in high rank quests.

Think ahead. Undoubtedly the most important way to deal with lag. The easiest way to gauge the amount of lag you have with any given player is to kick them and see how long it takes their player to react. If for example you have half a second of lag between you and the hammer user, you need to attack the area you want to hit half a second earlier. In other words, you might have to attack thin air, or, if the monster is flailing in a trap, attack out of rhythm.

I really did my best to screw up that first attempt. Wii remote batteries die with both dragons in the room. Then my poor equipment choice (-10 fire resist) and lowered max health from the first faint lead to a full health fireball oneshot faint.

    Oh well. We will overcome!

Dungbombs though. What a waste of time! I threw six at that Rathalos and he showed no sign of wanting to move on at all.

Yeah that's so fucking weird. I did my urgent with zoid and klyka, and a couple of dungbombs generally moved Los out of the area (perhaps Dungmaster was on one of them?). I kept chucking the things at Los and fuck all happened :?

I'm also to blame for the poor equipment choice with my Barioth set (I just can't quit Evasion!). Though Los turned the bullshit dial to 11 by turning sideways AND firebombing at the same time, and then that instant eagle dive :x

Gonna have another crack at it tomorrow though, my Rathian+ set awaits!

For the paralyzing LS I sugest the bahanabara set for the status up and sharpness. When you start getting other LS choices the Lag set seems to be the way to go for elemental boost. Usualy wear the gignox armor with the bahanabara set to offset the poison weakness.

I don't even bother offsetting the negative poison skill, I just bring 10 antidotes and avoid getting hit. It's not like you're going to let the poison run its course even without the double duration.

Just picked up Freedom Unite. It was 30 as a downloadable title and 20 as a new UMD at Gamestop, which is a little odd.

I couldn't ignore the vast amount of content, plus I'm starved for hunter action. I don't know how much I'll play it when I get back home to Tri, but it ought to get me through this trip.

No, that sounds about right. Physical stores lower their prices more to get rid of physical stock to make room for new stuff, online stores hold out as long as they possibly can.

The demon drug and armorskins will last until faint where as the pills give you a bigger boost but they wear off faster. They stack with one another so if you want to do one realy awsome attack you could pop a might pill while the mega demon drug is working and do a critical draw full charge GS strke and hurt something realy bad.

In a pug earlier today we were finding it very hard to break the beak until someone went hammer and started just pounding whenever the beak was down.

That has potential...My idea was to stock up on barrel bombs, knock him out, then just plant a bunch around his head and pop a small one in to set the whole lot off.

With lance the easiest way to break the beak is do the normal forward poke until it falls over, then do the normal forward poke at its face. 3 trips is usually enough to break the beak, depending on the power of your lance of course.

The absolute easiest method I've seen for breaking its beak is everyone taking the paralyze lance, with one or two people focusing on up-stabbing the face at all times.

Switch axe seemed pretty easy with the + upswing in axe mode. And it seemed pretty easy to line up the sword charging thing when it fell down.

Greatsword's charged overhead slash will make quick work of his beak. Granted, you have to practice the timing of it since it requires a lot of anticipation.

Actually, I was afraid the mother of all those eggs would come out... and it did! Freaking Gigginox.

So today I decided to finish up my Rathian set to try out the Earplugs skill. All I needed was a single Rathian Plate. After several kills doing her D.Island quest, all busting her head and chopping her tail, I came out with none. Since I was a little bored and the 4 star Rathian was so easy, I decided to try out the Urgent where you fight both a Rathian and Rathalos.

I hadn't expected that the Rathian would be upgraded with health and damage, too! It was a pretty long fight that I was unprepared for, and finally within the last 5 min and out of potions and stam food, I was able to take down the cozy couple in their sleeping spot.

Quest rewards: 1 Rathian plate + 1 Rathalos plate 8-)
