So I've decided that I've gone long enough without XBox Live. However, I need to connect wirelessly.
I've heard there are ways of doing this WITHOUT the 100 dollar microsoft dongle (something like a crossover cable to your computer or something). Can anyone help me out with that?
Depending on if your computer it hooked into a router, or directly into the modem you will need to either enable Internet Connection Sharing, or Bridge the connections. I don't recall which for which method.
Alternatively there is no need to use the official Microsoft wireless dongle. You can buy units that will do the same thing. Can't recall what they are actually called. Personally I was able to grab one of the Microsoft dongles on Ebay for $30 rather than 100.
You can wire it to your PC and make sure your connection is set to "Allow other users to connect through this computer's internet connection." in the sharing tab of your active connection. Contrary to popular belief, you do not need to bridge any connections.
Any old ethernet cable. You don't need to worry about crossovers or anything. The 360 will adapt to whatever it's plugged into.
I actually did need a crossover to get it to work.
I was testing it for hours fruitlessley with a standard ethernet cable, then as soon as I used a crossover it worked no problem despite all the literature saying I didn't need one.

Oh, and the old oXbox wireless things work too.
Connection connection connection.
Mine's actually hooked up to a switch (along with other stuff in the room) that's plugged into one of these. Although it's not of the highest quality.
All right, people. It is not a gerbil. It is not a hamster. It is not a guinea pig. It is a death rabbit. Death. Rabbit. Say it with me, now.
