Wait... you can still play PSOBB? Where do I get that?

Do a search for Schthack. PsoBB was free anyway so the group made their own servers when Sega pulled the plug. They've also done some stuff like Sega should have done, such as making it actually possible for the Red Ring to drop and having pretty much every quest open constantly.

No it wasn't. There was an open beta that let you play Ep.1 for free, but that was it. Once they introduced Ep.2 there was a $10 a month fee.

I seem to remember it becoming free near the end, like a few months before it ended. That was when I started caring about it. I think it got shut down for PSU.

If they ever did anything like that it would have been for those who already had an account, Like Sega did for PSU on PC/PS2. Or, you know, every other MMO closing ever.

Make a Whithill and get to VH. Then help me get a goddamn Cure/Freeze and you'll be my best friend forever. I hate that stupid thing so much, if I could just get that and my Argent I'd be set. I don't understand how my first time through Ep. 4 I got a super rare Mag cell off the boss and yet I can't get either of those two items. The Cure/Freeze isn't even that rare! Argent I have no clue, nobody knows the drop rates for Episode 4 except the person who gave people the drop charts, but he's refusing to say what the rates are and is taking them to the grave.

Does it matter what server I jump onto at all?

I forgot how long leveling takes.

Well, guess it'll be awhile before I hit VH.

Should I just jump into Ep. 4?

I've been on Skyline 1 or 2, you can always stop by my livestream and see if I'm up and running (playing on hard right now, working towards VH)

Do not jump into Ep. 4 yet, it's way harder at first. You've got gigantic bulls that will probably one shot you and you've got enemies like the ones in the ruins except they can stretch and hit from across the room. Get to 15 or 20 before you attempt it.

No, far different storage methods. Blue Burst stores the characters on the server, to make cheating harder.

I'm at floor 92 of Super Hard Eternal Tower and there's a dual-Arkzein room that is beyond ridiculous. This is the least fair or fun thing I've ever faced in any game in my entire life. High-rank missons in PS Portable 2 are also very similar (no surprise, it's also by Alfa Systems) -- enemies who effectively shrug off all hits while they spam the same, impossibly fast, perfectly-aimed 2-hit wonders, which interrupt your every attack.

These are godless creations, if there ever was such a thing. I just wanted to express that the asshat who put this crap in the game (and in PSPo2) is among the finest examples of malignant, broken game designers, and is simply some sick, sadistic bastard with no actual concepts of balance, challenge, or fun.

Edit: Heaven's Mother was a joke by comparison. "Surpasser of All" obtained.

I never played the first PSP, but I might consider getting this, since I was a fan of PSU (except I came in at a point where hardly anyone gave a crap about it anymore). Twin Sabers FTW!

I also share sentiments with others about wanting a standard PS RPG, but I think that time has come and gone, and PS4 is still one of the greatest RPGs I've ever played.

Arkzeins really are the worst, aren't they? Even if you can deal with the missiles (Which only happens in a 2zein spawn if you're playing multiplayer, since otherwise you never have both distracted enough to stop) that goddamn dash they do will always catch you in an attack wakeup animation.

Forces WRECK them, though. Zonde destroys them. Once a friend and I did an arena at Arca, it's nothing but zeins, and it's the ONLY time you ever see 3 spawn at once. I dunno if we would have pulled through if he wasn't playing his FOmar.

The Arkzein/Arkorse spawn combo scares me way more, though. Even when you're at the point where Arkzeins don't bother you as much anymore, that group of Korses spamming lasers at you and keeping you nailed down will take off a lot of your HP in a hurry.

Go for PSP2, 0 was a nice snack but it just can't keep you going. It's very limited and they stupidly made the only dungeon where good stuff can drop an offline only quest. PSP2 looks to be a full course meal.

As someone who dropped an insane amount of hours in everything PSO related.

I really like this demo. Even not understanding a word of anything I was able to get in there and tear stuff up. So far I've been the most successful with a saber/handgun combo. But my new little knife/shield combo is pretty good as is my sword. They made the sword useful again after they ruined it in zero.

I can't even begin to express how cool the off hand weapon system is. (which might be in psp1 or universe, I never really tried them.)

I can tell you that if the rest of the game holds to the same quality as this demo, and there's no reason to believe it will not, then I have my old obsession back.

I figured it probably was. I actually think I've heard a friend talk about it in psp1. It's weird, there's three missions, I can't understand a word anyone is saying, and I don't even know how to level up a class. But I'm still already having more fun then I did in zero.

I've trashed Zero a lot and it's because I was so disappointed. There was no excuse for the amount of power and level of rares I had at the end of the Normal mode. I didn't fell like there was much left to hunt for.

I just hope that Sega learned from PSP1 and will leave the difficulty alone. PSP1 was the easiest RPG I ever played until the final boss

I've heard that Multi-mode scales to about the correct difficulty with 3 players. Some said 4 people made it a little too easy (though bosses are probably pretty tough).

Based on this news and the fun I've had with the demo I would import it right now if there wasn't an immediate US release on the horizon.

My only consolation is I have Monster Hunter to keep me entertained until the game gets released here. It's still hard to wait as I've found myself thinking about weapon layouts today and which out of what I have so far do I like.

TLDR: Even with another game to play I still find myself obsessing about this one.
