Need a new water bottle.

I'm a rather frugal person, I currently do not have a job. I have used a glass sobe bottle as a water bottle for quite some time. I find that it is a higher quality and cheaper water bottle than you can obtain anywhere else. At any local store a reusable water bottle costs roughly fifteen dollars and is plastic. I liked the fact that the sobe bottles were glass because you didn't have to worry about all of the chemicals inside of plastics, besides plastic gives water a funny aftertaste. Unlike regular water bottles the sobe bottle also had a pretty wide mouth, making it perfect for filling up at water fountains.

My mom lets one of her friends stay over almost every weekend. This friend occasionally cleans the house. she usually only cleans when the house is pretty clean to begin with, then makes a really big deal out of it. Unfortunately my sobe bottle is now missing, I suspect that she threw it away the last time she cleaned. I asked her about this, her response was "I picked up a lot of trash yesterday," this really pissed me off. Everyone else in my house knows that particular sobe bottle is mine and that given the option I would drink out of it every day until the end of time. This may seem petty, but I really liked that water bottle. I have grown attached to it.

truthfully I spend most of my time at home. I still like to use a water bottle of some kind. It is distinctly mine, so I don't have to worry about anyone else drinking from it. All of the cups my mom buys have a distinct funny taste when you drink water out of them (that is only a problem for me, everyone else in my family doesn't drink water very much and when they do they drink out of regular plastic bottles).

As you probably know sobe now uses plastic for their bottles. I am unlikely to find a replacement. Does anyone have any recommendations of other drinks that you can buy from stores that come out of glass bottles? Specifically something that is not alcoholic and does not have a particularly strong taste. I don't want to be seen drinking water out of what used to be an alcoholic container, it would give a lot of people the wrong idea. Besides, it took a long time to get the taste out of the wide mouth sobe bottle, I can only imagine how long it would take to get the taste out of most any other bottle, especially one that used to contain alcohol.

Maybe a snapple bottle? Or is that not big enough?

You might be able to find one on ebay or at a garage sale or swap meet. It's amazing what you find when you are looking for it at these places.

Arizona tea still comes in glass bottles. You may have to look around, most of their stuff is in $0.99 24oz cans.

It is a nationwide chain, just check the juice section at your grocery store.

Every time he gets high he goes on a tirade about why this is the perfect container for drinking anything. It's pretty entertaining.

I also happen to like those, but many people are picky about them b/c of what chemicals they may or may not contain and what it does to the flavor, especially if you ever use it for alcohol (which can damage the liner).

I picked me up a 750ml Camelbak water bottle with their fancy little nipple on it. Was only like $15 but it's damn nice if you don't mind spending the money.

Go to your nearest outdoor/sports store, and pick up a Nalgene. Plus, the newer ones are all BPA free, so you don't need to worry about chemicals leeching into your drink over time.

How do you feel about metal bottles; does it alter the taste too much for you?

I think an Arizona Iced Tea bottle is up your alley.

Do you have any grocery stores that sell milk other than your national/regional chain? Where I live this place called EarthFare sells chocolate milk from these small dairies. You can get a small or big glass bottle for a couple bucks. Plus you get to drink some of the best chocolate milk before you get your bottle. I mean really its a win/win.

The sobe bottles around here are still in glass. :? It has been awhile since I've bought one though.

Are you sure it's not just your favorite store that switched over?

Those nalgene bottles are pretty awesome and basically indestructible, I remember seeing teenagers years ago going out of their way to try to smash one and they couldn't. Even if she didn't throw away your sobe bottle, because it's made out of glass it would forever hold the possibility of shattering. I know you dislike plastic but that is something to consider.

You could also get a Jones soda bottle if you have them around, they are sold in glass, it's tasty and the cap screws itself back on. It's also a soda bottle so the neck is of course narrow.

This. This a million times. I have the same one in the photo that's BPA free, and it's awesome. It can also take a helluva beating too. The bastard doesn't break!

Don't EVER ever reuse a regular plastic bottle. It's actually pretty bad for your health, and glass bottles break easily (or maybe I'm just clumsy). The nalgene will last you forever.

I am a fan of the Nalgene bottles. Mine was 10 or 12 bucks and is completely awesome. Most of them have BPA free on the tag and mine has fallen off of a cliff, been beaten against coral reef and chewed on by my dog with only gaining superficial scratches from the coral.

The rim is wide and the lid is secure so it is easy to fill and avoid spilling.

If that is does not sound like something you want then I am sure you can find a glass SoBe bottle somewhere. Someone else mentioned it but they still exist some places.

I've had my nalgene for years as well. Great bottles, the Top and little plastic strap will wear out long, long before the bottle does.

What is the appeal of sigg bottles? Other than having to pay another 10$ for a brush that can actually clean it, and feeling cool for owning one, etc.

i 5,000th the nalgene. i think i got my 24oz bottle for like 7 dollars at a Wegmans. if you get the widemouth (i have 2), make sure to get the inside lid. I've soaked a few shirts being a bit overzealous drinking before i got one.

A lot of places give those out as promotional items as well.

I use a stainless steel container that I bought from Home Goods for $5. It has dropped many times, has dents all over it, yet it endures, and everyone knows that it isn't a throw-away single-use bottle.

If you're dead set on getting a glass bottle, I can vouch for the big Arizona green tea glass bottles. They're big and have a relatively large opening.

You can also try the Brisk Nestea bottles. They're a bit smaller but glass also.

But just shell out the extra few bucks for a Nalgene bottle. They're indestructible, and won't be mistaken as trash and be thrown out.

On this idea, maybe one of the aluminum bottled soda/energy drinks could make a good second-hand water bottle. Maybe.

    Personally, I use a stainless steel thermos/bottle.

Really if you like those SoBe bottles just go get another SoBe, drink it and there you go another SoBe glass bottle. I personally have never seen SoBe in anything but glass.

On another note I use a stainless steel bottle, works great but I'm thinking i'm sold on the Nalgene bottle now.

    Good luck on your quest.

Yeah, 10-12 bucks on a Nalgene will last you at least 5 years, but probably longer. The only way I've been able to break one is filling it with water and dropping it off of a 10 story building. My other ones have scratches, but they never dent. They are basically the kings among water bottles.

Well you can clean them effectively with a little dish soap and water, but they're not intended for re-use and specifically to get the water hot enough to be effective in cleaning you'll start leeching chemicals from those bottles (they're not designed for re-use remember?).

Rinsing it out and using it for water won't kill you, and as long as you're not drinking stuff with visible bacterial colonies on it you're probably not going to die.

That said. The Aluminium bottles are the best. They are easily worth the money, a lot easier to clean, and don't make water taste quite as funny as the plastic/nalgene ones do. Sigg is also making wide mouth versions of their bottles now (but I think they use a BPA-free Plastic liner inside). They are completely worth the $25, though.

Also, fuck you spellcheck, Aluminium is right.
