The most terrifying species of EVERYTHING on the planet
The SCP Foundation is a wiki that serves as a collection of short stories, based around the idea of a international agency that contains items that threaten the normality of the world. These items are referred to as SCPs, with each one given containment procedures, a description, and history of experiments on them. Originated as "creepypasta" on 4chan's /x/ (paranormal) board, and then moved to its own site. Supplementary information includes short stories, profiles of "researchers" (authors), and an associated IRC chat room/roleplay.
It's not based on any pre-existing fiction; it's a wiki site about the various weird artifacts and creatures being curated and monitored by a shadowy government agency along the lines of the Men in Black or the BPRD
It's built its own weird little world around this concept but you can wind up reading stuff for hours there
SCP-230 prefers to talk about things he considers "good" or "gay". SCP-230 has some psychological attachment to the word "gay". When asked to describe himself, SCP-230 used the word "gay" six times, "gaiety" four times, and the word "gayest" once when SCP-230 referred to himself as "the gayest man alive."

rats are awesome. my friend Tanner had like four of them and used to take his favorite, which he named Willard, on walks with a wee tiny harness

It would be much cooler to simple pollute it with a layer radiation rather than straight up nuking the place, this way we can have cool new breeds of mutant animals. Laser Sloths anyone?

also because of this thread I had this dream last night where a spider grew out of my face and I woke up screaming
Getting a hug from a tiger reminds me of this story involving one of my former professors and a Leopard in Africa.
Freshman year I took an Intro to Anthropology class. The teacher was pretty hot and specialized in baboons so she spent a lot of time in Africa following around baboons for months at a time with a team including her husband, their partner, and a guide.
During whatever part of the year it was, the plains flooded, and so to get around they would use row boats. trips that would take them a half an hour in the dry season would take several hours when they had to row.
They leave in the morning to go catch up to the baboons, and when they get there they find all the baboons standing in a big circle screaming and running around. When they got closer they found out they had successfully repelled a leopard attack and were now exacting revenge on this leopard who was terrified and hunkering as close to the ground as it could get.
The point of their trip was to study the baboons vocalizations, so they set up their recording equipment and sat down to record the baboons going nuts. As they begin recording the Leopard breaks free from the circle and runs ~50 yards and is once again surrounded. They follow them and the Leopard escapes again, they give chase to the baboons/leopard all morning.
After several hours of following and recording the Leopard escaped into some bushes and the baboons surround the bushes. They follow and get what they think is a safe distance from the bushes but eventually the baboons run into the bushes as well, and they lose sight of everyone.
Keep in mind this is all being recorded. Our teacher brought in the recording for us to listen. it essentially goes like this:
Teacher - Well, can you see them anywhere?
Guide - I think they went back towards this direction. Back toward these other bushes.
Teacher - Maybe we should..
*increasingly loud sound of baboons*
Teacher - Oh they are coming back c'mon lets
*sound of roaring leopard, chaos, and everyone screaming*
Teacher - OH MY GOD OH MY DOG PETER ARE... OH MY GOD
In the course of about 5 seconds the leopard leaped out of the bushes, landed on their partner and gave him a big hug, then ran away as fast as it could. It tried to disembowel him, by grabbing on hard to his upper body and kicking its lower legs over and over, but luckily it failed. It did however, sink every one of his claws into his shoulder blades, breaking both of them.
They spent the next several hours rowing back to their camp. Luckily he was able to make a full recovery.

I'm going to have nightmares for the rest of the week.
Is there a single one of us here who didn't have a nasty childhood experience with those books?

Why were they even considered children books? I can't even look at those drawings now.
Damn you scholastic reader.
I brought along one of those books to read to a 4th grade class.
They were screaming for me not to show them the illustrations after the second story.
