ITT: Adventure Movies

I need some new movies to watch and I would like to watch more in the adventure realm.

Things like Indiana Jones, National Treasure, Uncharted (the video game) are a must.

Basically movies with clues, gunfights, action, drama.

Help?

The Mummy series would definitely fall into that if you haven't seen them. Basically Brendan Frasier delivering witty one-liners while punching stuff in the face. The series gets more ridiculously bad as it goes on however. After the second one I had a really hard time swallowing it. I'll post more as I think of them.

The first two Mummys I have seen.

Never saw the third. I liked them well enough and saw the Scorpion King, which technically wasn't very good.

I have never seen Big Trouble in little China. I will have to try that. I hear it talked about all the time.

Who is in Romancing the Stone?

Thirding Big Trouble in Little China

These don't fit your 'clues' requirement as well but Demolition Man, Wanted, and The Losers if you like your action a little self-aware and willing to mock itself

Predator, Alien, T2 if you just want to watch things blow up with a bit of a plot

You say you want adventure movies but your requirements are clues, gunfights, action, and drama, so I've gone with those rather than the whole adventure genre which I think would be better described as pulp 30's or something.

Blade Runner, The Fifth Element, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension!, The Third Man, OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Spartan, Rush Hour and Rush Hour 2, Serenity (watch Firefly first),

The Good The Bad and The Weird. The three title characters, and many others, spend the movie chasing mcguffins around the Mongolian desert. Good music, good gunfights, and good times.

Taken by itself, this sounds more like "noir" than "adventure"- you sound like you might just be looking more specifically for "Indiana Jones and movies that are ripping off Indiana Jones", which will limit your options a bit.

I can't really pin down what I'd define as an 'adventure movie', though the plot being somewhat of a journey might be one, and a not-overly serious tone might be another, though I wouldn't put either down as a "requirement". That said, I'd consider the following to be "adventure" movies in some sense of the word, even if they vary wildly in tone and setting and plot:

The Man Who Would be King
    Lawrence of Arabia
    Apocalypse Now
    Lord of the Rings
Van Helsing (I can't actually recommend this because it is unbelievably bad, but it is an adventure movie.)
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (again, terrible, but fits the genre.)
    Three Days of the Condor
    Sneakers
    The Count of Monte Cristo
    The Warriors
    O Brother Where Art Thou
    The Incredibles
    The Mask of Zorro
    The Train
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
    Star Trek
    Hellboy 1/2
    The Fall
    Breakdown
    Deliverance
    North by Northwest
    Mr. Majestyk
    The Rocketeer
    Labyrinth
    Saving Private Ryan
    The Dirty Dozen
    Rambo movies
    James Bond Movies
The Getaway (The Steve McQueen one)
    Avatar
    Star Wars
    Up
    Escape from New York
    Treasure of the Sierra Madre
The Da Vinci Code (only bringing this up because you brought up National Treasure- the plots are basically the same sort of deal, though the DaVinci Code movie is obnoxiously over-serious and plodding in comparison.)
The Mission:Impossible movies (though the first one is the only one that's actually decent, IMO).

If you're into anime at all, Steamboy, Princess Mononoke, and Laputa: Castle in the Sky.

I love me some adventure movies. Check these out.

Brotherhood of the wolf. (a 18th century french knight, and his american indian companion explore the forests of France for a mysterious beast that is killing maidens.) This is a french film and may be difficult to find but it is fantastic. My dvd has both english dubbing and subtitles. No one I have shown this movie to did not like it. The knight and indian are pretty much total bad asses and kill a lot of things. Also boobies.

The chronicles of riddick. A space film about an escaped convict, a totalitarian regime army, and monsters. Pretty much the definition of a space opera. Very fun. You can also see the first film in the series called pitch black. It is not as good in my opinion. They are currently working on a third that is coming out soon.

Force 10 from navarone. Harrison ford, and carl weathers! OMG ok so WW2 is raging and the russians need some help. So a super group of army dudes go behind enemy lines to blow up a bridge. This is not a 90/2000s ww2 movie. This is more like your grandpa's ww2 movie. The action moves along at a good clip but the movie is more about good dialog and intrigue then action. also harrison ford is a bad ass in this film (like usual.) But he is not the member of the team you will like the most. The bumbling british explosive expert is awesome. Some sort of james bond / mcgruber mash up.

Lastly you probably won't be able to find this one. It is out of print and I was only able to get a vhs copy off ebay like 10 years ago for way more than I should have paid. Yellow beard. In the years following monty pythons holy grail and life of brian they got together with cheach and chong and various other famous comedians of the day to make a freaking ridiculous pirate adventure film. It stars the same guy that did king arthur in holy grail as yellow beard a deranged murderous pirate in search of treasure. Cheech plays a new world spanish conquistador. They have shinangins together. This movie is absolutely ridiculous. If you can find it. Watch it.

This may sound pretty obvious, and they're not exactly the best films in the world, but... the Tomb raider movies? they seem to fit in pretty damn neatly... finding artifacts, chase scenes, shooting, exploring etc.

also... The Librarian series. made for TV movies with Noah Wyle from ER, they're just knock off indiana jones movies, but i don't see why they wouldn't work!

I was coming in to suggest just this exact thing, it's basically an Uncharted movie

They're pretty cheesy but not half bad

Hidalgo fits into this category, I think. It was way better than I expected, more action, fights, and general awesomness than any of the previews would lead you to believe (or at least led me to believe).

One is an action/adventure film in the style of the serial noirs of the 30s and 40s and the other is a straight up "Boom-Bang-Pow-Explosion!" action movie.

Ok, so, there's a lot of ways you can go with this. If you're looking for specifically Archaeology-Adventure ala Indy, then that limits things a lot. Most of the possible suspects have already been mentioned with the possible exception of the Tomb Raider movies.

If you're willing to broaden things out a bit, Heist/Caper movies will give you all sorts of clues and adventure, but its usually a little more style and stealth than gunfights.
