Sayuri is super broken it's not even funny.

Maxed out, she can take out bosses in about, oh, 5 seconds.

Just beat stage 2 with 1 continue, pretty happy about that! Only the arcade version for me, I want spoiler-free classic contra action. Normal gun is making me kill my thumbs though!

I honestly wish you the best of luck with that endeavor, because you will freakin' need it!

Your dedication to Contra pureism is admirable, but believe me, you'll want to play through in Rising mode before giving Arcade a serious shot because the level of difficulty ramps up dramatically, and running out of continues in Rising won't mean having to start all over again from stage 1. A lot of the later stages throw some nasty stuff, and you'll want to be aware of what's ahead and how to deal with it. . . unless you have a lot of spare controllers to break. I say this not as a question of your skills, but as someone who's had first-hand experience.

Yeah, but I will see how far I can make it. :) This game really likes those memorization stuff I noticed (plus it is insanely long), so I might have to try rising, but purity comes first. Note that I have never ever broken any controller, ever.

Man, figuring out strafe and fixed shot really helped me during this run, the stage 3 mini-boss is soooo difficult without it. I almost 1cced stage 3 but died at the end, too tired to try and go deep today. Although with all of these lives, this isn't really an achievement. But w/e.

How far am I? 1/5 of the way there?

Well, lessee. . . the game's eight stages long, so you're 3/8 there. I like to tweak my control settings (360) so dash is on the left trigger, fixed shot is on the right trigger, and strafe is on the bumpers since I can focus on moving and shooting. Stage 3's bosses are really more wars of attrition than anything, but the next stage more than makes up for it as a whole. You'll see what I mean when you get there.

Thanks for the advice on the strafe vs. fixed. I wish there was a practice mode with nanosecond load time so I could try out the new controls. "wars of attrition?" Those bosses aren't that bad... the first one is way easier with strafe and if you keep your upgrades (only got hit once I think).

I already got to stage 4 a while ago, still haven't figured out how to not lose lives. Just too many explosions and getting distracted with the background. :) I was hoping to beat that yesterday actually, but like I said, too tired.
