So, I just read the full archives of Looking for Group, which I enjoyed a lot. I'm following it now as they update, but I'm home sick a lot and I've found that I really like having something like that to read over breakfast, clicking through strips one after another like reading a book, so I'm looking for a similar comic. One with continuity, preferably in the fantasy genre although that's not necessary if the story's good. Other than that, I'm flexible. Strip or full-page, color or black and white, etc. Some humor's fine, but I'm not really looking for a gag comic. Just something with a good story and a nice long archive. Thanks!

Schlock Mercenary - sci-fi, but 100% continuity and funny. Dominic Deegan - fantasy/story. Totally shallow, not particularly good, but entertaining. Order of the Stick - started out as a (really good) D&D spoof comic, turned into a (really good) fantasy story + D&D spoof comic.
Sinfest - http://www.sinfest.net/index.php is quite fun, no real storyline, but it's cute.
I just started reading Machine Flower - http://www.machineflower.com/ and though the archives don't stretch back vastly, it updates regularly and its so well drawn.
I also recently read my way through Johnny Wanderer - http://www.johnnywander.com/ which is more of a 'diary' comic, but still good.
If you're into sampler platters, there's a webcomic thread on SE++

Marty: The future, it's where you're going? Doc: That's right, twenty five years into the future. I've always dreamed on seeing the future, looking beyond my years, seeing the progress of mankind. I'll also be able to see who wins the next twenty-five world series.
I seem to remember this one comic that was about this group of people winning a TV in a contest in the beginning of it, but I haven't the slightest idea what it was called.

Digger is very good, has a pretty decent archive, and a great storyline. Templar, Arizona is good if you can follow it, but full disclosure: I haven't read it in over a year, so I'm not up to date on it. Girl Genius is a good steampunk comic. I agree with Achewood, though it is slightly surreal and I didn't like it on first reading (I do enjoy it now). Sinfest is pretty cute, I recently read through all of Applegeeks and it's still ok, Something Positive is generally alright to pass the time.

It is a modern-fantasy comic with a very strong sense of continuity. And it's also my favorite webcomic. I recommend everyone read this comic. It is so good. So very good.

Check out Yu+Me: Dream loosely based on the author/artist coming to grips with her homosexuality as a teen, though it takes a bizarre, but good left-hand turn about half-way through. It was apparently planned and plotted out from the beginning, and she's actually nearing the end in the next couple of months. A little humor here and there, but it's primarily a serious drama.
Something Positive is more humor filled, but also follows a running plot with character development, and can get quite serious sometimes. The author has stated that he has an end in mind, but isn't sticking closely to any kind of script or outline, so when that comes is anybody's guess.
Sluggy Freelance. I'll be honest, I haven't read this one in years, and it's been around almost as long as webcomics have in general. But it's also extremely plot-heavy, and due to it's long-running nature, will probably take you months to get through.

Heh I got two friends hooked on sluggy a couple years ago and it took them the greater part of a semester to catch up. Its been kinda in a lull lately but seems to be picking up again.

I can also save you some time by telling you not to real Real Life comics... or CAD, Errant story (because the plot went nowhere), also don't read Megatokyo (the art is amazing, but again the storyline went nowhere)...
no, megatokyo's art is not amazing. it is desu desu, but anyone who draws the same people over and over again for years and shows almost no progress (especially on hands) does not draw amazing things.
The writing (plotted drama) is okay. Just stay well away from the comments section, because the author's ego will make you want to hate the comic on principle.

The Phoenix Requiem is drawn by the same artist as Dreamless, but not the same author. The fantasy element is stronger and more traditional than in Dreamless, and the storyline is continuous. Try it for a similar illustrative style, but different narrative flow.
Also worthy of note is The Meek, which is relatively new, so the archives lack the depth of some other recommendations, but is by all means fantastic.

there was a super cool webcomic, but for the life of me I cant remember what it was called
it had really cool looking art, and I think it had something to do with weird messages randomly arriving at the main character's house.
All I can remember is one chapter where he fights a hobo and then I think he feels bad about it later

bonus great Minus comic that you won't get unless you read the whole series: http://www.kiwisbybeat.com/minus37.html
Also, you kukuburi has been pretty great, although it seems to be almost over. It's really well drawn and is a continuous story (kukuburi.com).

Yes, this is probably what you want. Especially if you've ever played D&D
Weird, but cute and oddly hilarious.
Also the only webcomic where a good two thirds of it needs to have the yakety sax theme song.

It's normally an auto-recommend for me, but he did have criteria. I guess since everyone else went off them we might as well keep up the trend.
