I love listening to music from Last.fm as I fall asleep. It gives something for my brain to focus on so that I actually can sleep. Lately I've been craving something highly specific, nice, slow, and deep mellow tones. Perhaps something from a cello?
I'll put cello in as a tag but a variety of stuff comes up. I'm feeling something more... well, nice, slow, and with deep mellow tones. I don't know how else to describe this and maybe that's the problem I'm having. If I could describe it to you, then I could describe it to Last.fm!
If you could recommend an artist or style that might fill this particular requirement, I would be eternally grateful. Mmmm, mellow cello...

Erik Satie would likely qualify, despite being piano.
I don't have any drone music myself as I tend to prefer drone as an element, rather than the focus, for slower music styles. I do have a fair variety of very ambient music -- none of this "ambient dance music" stuff, but truly ambient:
Marsen Jules, "Les Fleurs"
Goldmund, "Corduroy Road"
some tracks by Colleen
Aphex Twin, "Selected Ambient Works II" (some v. bassy stuff on here, but tends to have a beat).
Jacaszek, "Treny"
If you're feeling particularly adventurous, I could record some melodic, but very low, double bass solos, at an absurdly slow tempo.
Incidentally my favorite droney, bassy, ambient album was a self-released album by the dude who is now in The Books, so it's not exactly widely available. But the first disc of the album was released, if you can track down Zammuto - Solutiore of Stareau: Disc One.
I know it isn't cello, but it is time to get classy. This is some serious sleeping music. Puts you to bed and you can feel your dignity just exploding through the roof!
I picked up the EVE Online soundtrack on a whim a few years back, and I do believe it fits your description nicely, right down to listening to it while falling asleep, as this is something I do myself regularly. I looked up the first track on youtube, give it a listen and see if it works for you too ;]
I absolutely love Fauré's Pavane - my quartet recently performed an arrangement of it, beautiful.
I'm a cellist, but most of the sonatas, concertos, etc. that come to mind at the moment can be too... dynamic at times for sleep music.
Look into Fauré's Elegie for cello & piano, also his Sicilienne, some of the Rachmaninoff sonatas, Elgar's cello concerto & Enigma variations, and I'll second Erik Satie for general mood. Debussy's Reverie would be a good one to check out as well. Chopin's cello sonata op. 65, Bloch's Schelomo, Bruch's Kol Nidrei, Schumann's concerto in A minor would also be worth listening to.
For those of you who recommended artists/composers, thank you so much. I've found some great stuff. As for the individual tracks or specific albums, I'll make note of those and check them out when I'm able to. Right now I'm only streaming.

Very mellow cello. Did some of the tracks for BRAID so if that's what your looking for, she is the lady to look up.

They have some parts in the songs that I can see people not being able to sleep to, but for me they put me out.
Edit: Forgot to mention, no cello.
