mk vs. dc pretty much WAS 2d though

there was some side-stepping but nowhere near what the Deadly Alliance series of games were

They've all been like that. It was only slightly more prominent in MK vs. DC. They got rid of the pointless stance switching but it was basically still the same terrible fighting engine. MK vs. DC is the best of the 3D ones, but not by much.

I'm talking about this in the way someone who is really into fighting games in general views it. For a casual game they were fine. Boone admitted this is the first time they are really going after the hardcore guys as well as the casual. Yet another reason for people who weren't into the 3D ones to be excited.

MK vs DC used the unreal engine, which is what this new game is using, so it's going to feel pretty similar. minus the 3d stuff, of course.

I was talking about the fighting engine. That has nothing to do with the graphics.

well, I was too, I'm pretty sure it's the same engine. I could be wrong, though. hopefully it'll be playable at pax or something.

sorry if I wasn't clear. I meant that I think this game's fighting engine is based off the mk vs. dc fighting engine, since it's using the same graphics engine as the previous game and I imagine that would save time.

    No. They're totally separate things.

Ed Boon linked to this article on his Twitter (@noobde) and I found it somewhat interesting: http://gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2010/06/21/who-we-want-and-dont-want-in-the-new-mortal-kombat.aspx

It's really rough to come up with a character list when everyone that plays MK pretty much has a differing opinion on who they like and dislike.

I just need Baraka and Kabal (minus Kabal's crappy fatalities) and I'll be content.

Kabal is who I need. I want his "scream and scare your soul" fatality.

I agree with their list of who should return and I agree with the shouldn't list.

As for the color swaps. Most of the characters played uniquely enough to be in the game, they just needed their own design.

    Ermac in MK9!

And Cyrax. Those were my favorite 2.

Cyrax had that beastly Net + Bombs infinite combo.

Cyrax was pretty much my main in Mortal Kombat 3. You could certainly steal some wins just by playing keep-away with bombs and doing dial-a-combo block damage.

    Good News Everyone!

Wil Wheaton likes the new Mortal Kombat
The next thing I saw was a demo for the next Mortal Kombat game. I loved MK2, and my friends and I used to get together back in the Genesis days to play that and NHL 93 (one of my favorite thing about the movie Swingers was seeing them play games the same way my friends and I did) but I hated MK3 and have since lost interest completely in fighting games. The next Mortal Kombat, though, may change that. The fatalities, models, animations and environments have improved and evolved exactly the way you'd expect, and it was suprisingly fun to play. It was fun to try to translate the muscle memory of Scorpion's special moves from six buttons and a D-pad to four buttons, two thumbsticks, and four triggers.

    EDIT:

Also. The game was shown briefly on George Lopez for whatever reason. The only interesting thing of note is that Kitana is shown briefly, albeit in the background, shackled up near Shao Khan's throne. Makes you wonder if she will be playable? The last time we saw characters shackled up in this fashion was in MK2 when Kano and Sonya were left out of the playable selection.

It could be like SF4 with Balrog on the plane.

Remember that Mortal Kombat: Rebirth live action teaser?

Well, it looks as though something is actually going to come of it.

Sounds interesting, though I have to say that I'd have preferred a film.

I completely understand what you mean. Watching that live PAX dnd session was very enjoyable except every time he opened his mouth and tried to be funny. It just made me cringe. I'm sure he's a nice guy, but I just don't get why he's famous.

EDIT: Also, why am I posting in this old ass thread?

It might work better in small doses, as long as they keep it dark.
