Welcome to Starcraft Arcadia!
Starcraft Arcadia is Starcraft 2 recreational, but competitive, league where every week teams of PA players pit their members against one another in a best of 5 series
We know what Starcraft Arcadia is, give me the run down!
After some great discussion with peoples in this thread the ground works for the league are set and we can start taking registrations right away, here's all you need to know about Starcraft Arcadia:
Rules!
Teams will consist of 1 Captain and 5 players
Each week Captains are responsible for determining which of their 6 players will play in which of the 5 games that week. Captains rank their players 1-5 and the corresponding players from each team will play each other in a best of 3 series.
The first map played in any series will always be Lost Temple and the losing player will choose the next map
Which ever team wins the majority of the 5 games takes the game for that week and is awarded 2 points for the win.
League Structure
There has been overwhelming support for the league, more than I imagined we would get for the first season. During the initial pre-registration interest check we had 91 people sign up!
Unfortunatly there is simply no way for us to have that many players in the league right now, it would result in having teams that are too large to manage or too many teams to have this finish in a timely fashion. With that in mind the teams and league will be structured like this:
There will be a total of 12 teams each consisting of 6 players (1 captain, 5 draftees) for a total of 72 players. These 12 teams will be split into two conferences of 6 each. Teams will play every team in their conference as well as two teams from the other conference for a total regular season of 7 weeks. After the regular season the top 3 teams from each conference will make the playoffs where they will be seeded 1-6.
Registration
Because we are potentially cutting ~20 from the first season of the league I feel the need to stress that while this is meant to be fun it is also something that you are suppose to put time into with practice, talking with your captain/teammates, and working on matchups, one of the goals of the league is to help players get better. If you don't think you are willing to make that kind of commitment or you don't think you will stay interest for the whole 7+ weeks please don't register and take a spot away from someone else.
To Register simply type
SIGN UP! in a post a long with your Battle.net ID, your main race, and an accurate description of your skill level.
If you wish to be a captain please PM me so that we can talk about it further, remember that we need 12 captains and there is no minimum skill level to be a captain!I will not be scanning the thread for people who don't follow the signup process so please, please, please signup as outlinedIn order to give everyone a fair shot at signing up REGISTRATION WILL OPEN AT 12pm EST TOMORROW! ANY REGISTRATION BEFORE THAT WILL NOT BE COUNTEDFinally I would like to give special thanks to Imperfect, MVRCK, Ryougi, and Exoplasm for their help with the website, league format, streaming, and all the other things these awesome people did and continue to do

also why don't you just copy the korean pro-league format for teams, first person plays against the first person on the other team, the person that wins goes on to fight person #2 from the other team and so on until he is defeated
(Many thanks to Invictus for compiling Week 2 results!)

Or do it Ultimate Fighter style, one team picks their player then 2d team picks their player.
or just K.I.S.S.
Also I'm down.
Also I think we should hold some sort of double elim tourney to determine team captains. Just my 2 cents.
For instance, I have two friends that would want to be on a team with me and one has Plat Level play, the other has Silver and I have Gold. Would this allow us to enter as a team or would we still have to enter individually?
Thanks for doing this Trus, this looks awesome.

Bit leery of the team setup, but TBH I've never participated in much of any sort of league thing before.
At the very least I think a careful eye should be kept on the top players in the league such that regular PA Invitational tourneys can be staged and casted.
Edit: I spose it would help if I actually provided feedback on what you asked about.
1) I say determine team size after signups are done and pick whichever number gives a reasonable number of teams.
4) Definitely playoffs.
5) As an initial venture, I wouldn't have a buy in, but assuming there is initial success and participation, raise it as something to consider for season 2.
I really like the idea of having people set up their own teams but I'm not sure how we could get it to work with random PA people. In your case I would probably be ok with it.

People would be free to play matches at any point they are free during the week, this isn't something we would do on one day. If each "week" of the season starts at 12:00am on the Monday the players would be free to play their matches at any point during the week before 11:59pm on the Sunday.
Something else I would like to discuss would be how to get the team aspect of the league more involved since right now team mates are, essentially, nothing more than practice buddies and I really want the fact that teams are playing, not people, as the core aspect of the league. The easiest solution would be to make all the matches in the series take place at the same time so you could discuss strats and plays in between each game but that could be hard to do with people's schedules and time differences.
Also, we should definitely have playoffs.
Edit: Why not random teams? Players are formed into a ABCD Configuration and then a number given to them for there letter and people are paired with their teammate like that?
I think it could lead to some hilarious things.

Also, no money buy in for the first tourney. Money, even in small amounts, changes the way people play. If there was a money tourney, I'd have it run parallel to the regular one.
Edit: Screw it, here's my ideas for some rules:
-Teams consist of 3-5 players like you said, but make each member of the team choose a race to play through out the entire season. No changing races until the next season.
-Each team plays against each other team twice. Once 'at home' and once 'on the road'.
-The home team gets to choose what order the players go against each other and what maps (chosen from a pool of like 10 or so) that each game will take place on.
-Team captains always face each other, but the other four match-ups are selected by the home team.
-Each match-up should be one game.
-In the case of a tie (if possible), the team captains choose one player from their team to play a ace match, ala Korean SC style.
-Playoff system like the NFL with first round byes, homefield through out the playoffs, and NFC vs AFC.
-The 'Superbowl' game at the end would have no home field advantage. The maps and players are decided beforehand and all games are best of 3. Each team would have an extra week to practice before the big game.
The biggest addition to this is the home field advantage concept. This would allow each team to customize how they are going to face their opponents. Say Team Trus is visiting the home field of Melkster's Marauders. Melkester's Marauders (MM for short) would get to decide in what order their 1-5 guys would match up against Team Trus (TT for short). The matches end up like this:
Team Trus @ Melkster's Mauraders
Captain-Trus(Z) vs Captain-Melkster(P) on Lost Temple
TheStig(Z) vs DigitalSyn(P) on Twilight Fortress
Kime(R) vs Apogee(T) on Steppes of War
Iowa(T) vs Lemming(P) on Kulas Revine
Houn(P) vs NoGreatName(Z) on Blistering Sands
The above example shows that MM would know which 5 maps (of 9-10) and what race to practice against. TT wouldn't have this advantage and would have to practice more generally. The team captains, Trus and Melkster, always fight but on a map of Melkster's choosing giving him an advantage.
So, whatcha' think?

My idea on how to choose players for teams: Captain's tournament. Once we have a list of how many people are interested and have decided the Captains - we run one tournament solely amongst the captains and they choose in the order they place.
This tournament would, of course, be 'casted and commentated to set the tone for the season.
Also, I'm thinking that replays should posted in this thread, so epic games from the series have a place to live.
Heck, we should put together a site of some kind. Forums eventually hit a limit when it comes to organization and archiving.

I think that if we did do the home field advantage idea it would be best if the home team got to pick the matchups but the away team still gets to know who plays who on what map.
I gotta say, it is pretty cool having you haunt these here forums.
To me it makes more sense for home field advantage to have the home team picking the maps, but the visiting team is picking the matchups.

That would be awesome. Hopefully people watching would understand that this tournament isn't "Serious Business" and won't always have the highest level of play.
Too much home field advantage? Alright, have the lists put up beforehand so the away team can practice like Trus recommended. Having the away team have any say in the matter, be it in match-ups or maps, gives no real advantage to the home team.

Perhaps, but what if a person decides to switch to a different race as their main race? I mean this is supposed to be for fun after all.
This seems like a fair enough compromise.
It definitely would be fair enough, but the problems arise with communication. It's pretty hard getting people to show up for matches to begin with, even when you have an entire week to make it happen, based on real world problems and schedules. In order to cut down on excess information being passed around, the easiest solution would be to have everyone chose a race at the onset. If someone wants to change their race, then they'd send out an email notifying the opposing teams captain of the change otherwise it's business as usual.
