I'm putting this post up because Gungirl 2 is awesome. This game is freeware, get it at

The trailer:

Yes, the characters have no legs. Don't worry.
Main Features:
Put Some G-Power In Your Weapons
GG2 offers 6 main weapons, each has a unique feel, ammunition, an alternate fire mode, a variety of unique power-ups and you can even level them up. Every time you kill enemies, they will drop small G letters. Collect them to power up your weapons to make them more and more deadly over time. But be aware! Each time an enemy hits you, you will lose a certain amount of G-Power.
Explore New Worlds
The game starts off in a small building, from which you have to escape. The more you explore, the more will the world open up. Get more and more items and power-ups that will give you the necessary abilities to reach new places. Find abandoned subway-stations to travel to far-away new places or go through portals and travel across the hellish parallel-dimension!
Power-Up Your Character
Another feature is the Power-Up system. Whenever you obtain special Power-Orbs in the game, you can use them in your status screen to upgrade ascpects, weapons or items of your character. You decide if a weapon should have more power, bigger clip size, faster fire rate etc, or if you need more protection, or better health supplies. Spend your Power-Orbs wisely to become more versatile or focus them to become a specialized killing machine.
Advanced Blood & Gore FX
When I go see a zombie movie and there are no bucketloads of blood in it, I would say “Hey mister, cool flick, but where’s the damn blood?”. To avoid such emails from angry players, GunGirl 2 offers a whole ton of high-quality blood effects to please all zombie fans!
Lots of Quests
There are several main- and sub-quests in the game. You can get them from surviving npcs or even from unholy items and they have smaller or bigger impacts on the story. They are NOT grind-quests to cheat a longer playtime! That’s a no-go
High Replayability Value
If the 4-8 hours of playtime (on normal mode) aren’t enough for your zombiekilling-desire, the game offers a total of 3 difficulty settings (from Normal to Iron Maiden), unlockable playmodes and even a secret character!
Music by Josh Whelchel
This guy is pure gold. He made some of the most memorable soundtracks for indie-games such as Bonesaw or The Spirit Engine 2. If you haven’t heard of him yet, definitely check out his website at

Freeware!
Yeah, it’s 100% free for download. Even the Original Soundtrack is available for free at

The comparison to Cave Story is probably unavoidable so I'll get that out of the way first. The action is fast, the weapons power up exactly like in Cave Story, and your main method of travel between areas is basically the same as teleportation. There is a resemblance, but Gungirl 2 isn't a straight clone of anything.
The gist of the gameplay is that you need to slaughter your way through hordes of the undead. They're trying to eat you and you've got business to take care of. Lots of running, jumping, shooting, some very brief underwater action. The game happens across various locations on post-zombie-apocalypse Earth, and some infernal locales.
There's lot of stuff normal to exploration-action-platformer games with RPG elements such as the character's progression in power and mobility. You get to spend some upgrade points to power up your skills and guns and such, too. One thing that's different from other games is that here you've got a little quest summary in your status screen. It shows your main quest summary, and two sub-quest reminders.
Weapons. Like in Cave Story, you pick up weapon power from dead enemies that upgrade your weapons to a maximum of level 3. In addition, each weapon has a hidden upgrade orb that gives you an alt-fire power when your weapon is at level 3. There are 6 weapons and the trailer spoilered all but one of them. I'll give the briefest mention to those shown in the video:
Pistol: Shoots fast and reloads fast, not very strong per bullet.
Shotgun: Best at close range, powerful shots but there's a short delay to pump the next round into the chamber after each shot.
Icicle cannon: Huge magazine, automatic fire, shoots little bits of ice.
Fireball launcher: Fires bouncy fireballs that can one-shot many kinds of enemies.
Sawblade gun: Slow firing, shoots blades that penetrate through hordes of guys.
A ton of shit seems to be completely optional but I have been having a blast searching all over for weapon powerups and other upgrades.
I'm about 75% of the way through the game and have a little over 5 hours on my save.
Play this game!

I mean, I know what I have to do, obviously... but I just can't fucking make it back alive! Loving it.
If you're having trouble actually pulling the move off, i found that you can
Hm, nevermind, I got it. Guess it was up and fire.
edit: Oh wait it's FREE!? Downloaded.
Sorry. The Flux Capacitor is for traveling through the Eighth Dimension.
Doc. Brown was probably just a Team Banzai lab assistant when the FC was invented by Doc. Banzai. He should get credit for applying the technology to time travel, though.

I've become partial to a fully upgraded handgun, but only just got the fire gun too. It's nice to finally be able to hit stuff below me.

So good, in places.
I usually equip the shotgun and just dive into the enemies below me with my shield out. By the time I become vulnerable there are only re-dead corpses nearby
That raises a question of what people are choosing to use their upgrade points on. The frequency with which I take damage is making me wish I spent more on shields.

I was awesome this morning, but tonight I seem to lack the necessary patience to flawlessly ledgekill. Ah, well. Such is life.

EDIT: I finished it at about 7 hours, and didn't find everything, although I tried.
Operation "Zombie Death Orgy" is go.
Seriously, fuck that.
There's something about Joy to World playing while mercilessly slaughtering zeds by the hundreds.
Tell me about it. The Hell Desert Map, the one with the Rocket Jump upgrade? That ONE save at the very beginning? Swear to god that map makes me want to punch kittens. It's like I do PERFECT for the entire map. Then abruptly, Double Jump fails and I fall to my doom and have to start all over.
I'd just like to point out that Josh Whelchel did the amazing music for this game, and that's the only reason I even knew about it. He also did great things for The Spirit Engine 2 and Bonesaw. I probably enjoy his OSTs more than the games themselves.
Hey, question: Where in the hell would I find the Antimatter Cube?
