With the weekend all up on me, I came up with a potentially awesome idea to really get away from it all and gain some perspective. I recently moved to North Carolina and I am totally craving driving to a nice secluded camping site with my dog and getting back to nature for a few days. I want to do this on the cheap, part of the point, but google has naturally led me to expensive looking camp sites. They provide all kinds of amenaties which are costly and would defeat the point of my trip. The only camping trips I've been on before were with groups so location was already taken care of.
So, camping enthusiasts, whats the best way to go about finding nearby camping opportunities that won't be cluddered with RVs?
Other general camping advice also welcome.

Problem is, it's usually not cheap to camp, since you usually need a state sticker plus have to pay per night.
Most parks will have a separate area for tents, or at least try to partition it off. Really just have to look at each map if you haven't been there.
