Graphics are nice, but the combat still reeks of Oblivions non-satisfying combat.
the space battles show promise but the way the ships were taking damage was not pretty, I will give them an "alpha" out of that one though.
otherwise the fighting style felt (as much as it could without me playing it) much like Oblivion + Guns. and Oblivion was such a let down in the combat aspect I would hate to see it happen to this title as well.

Where the holy living fuck has this come from. I havent heard about it until 3 seconds ago and it is suddenly like... oh my god... my most anticipated game.
I know! I was browsing Gametrailers and saw the title. It didn't ring a bell and the little screenshot they had looked like a low budget japanese game.
Then I saw "Xbox360" next to it and just had to download the trailer.

The combat looks absolutely nothing like Oblivion's. In fact, as I was watching the trailer, I was thinking how little like Oblivion the fighting was, because you are shooting things. With guns.

If I understand it right, its more a FPS with RPG elements, as opposed to oblivion, which was a RPG that could be played in the first person. (i liked 3rd person camera better anyway).
But yeah, expect for Deus Ex (which while very very good, was pretty closed in terms of what you could do) few FPS's have RPG elements, and I think thats a shame.
Art direction looks plastic-y and generic... The forest planet was the only thing that looked mildly interesting. And shitloads of bloom turns me off something fierce.
But it could turn out to be a gem if they put work into making the worlds feel alive.

Criticising it at this stage for pretty much anything is a little harsh. Take it for what it is, a sci fi FPS/RPG combo, and there are so few of them that even if its not up to scratch its worth a look.
I noticed the cartoonish, plastic, sort of look to the game as well; however, I am not about to let that stop me from wanting this game, and wanting it hard. It looks good and seems to run pretty smooth for a game still in it's pre-alpha stage, and that gives me enough hope that some of the nagging aspects seen in the trailer will be fixed. I wish I could have seen more of that dead planet with the decaying city as that was what caught my attention the most.
Also, how can anyone dismiss this game considering what we have seen so far?

The more and more I hear the more I realize how much I want this game to not be a sci-fi Oblivion. Oblivion was addicting, fun, but ultimately unsatisfying. The story was completely mediocre and most (not all) of the quests/factions equally mediocre. This game needs to exceed the expectation of a sci-fi version of Oblivion, not merely live up to it.
Graphics are nice, but the combat still reeks of Oblivions non-satisfying combat.

Oblivion's combat amounted to holding block until you were attacked, then attacking while the enemy was staggered, using potions as necessary. In 90% of situations, zero skill required.
This game requires the same skillset as any FPS - good plan of attack, good reflexes, and good on-the-fly decision making. Sounds good to me.
I mean, it would be my dream if the game played like Rainbow Six Vegas in space with RPG elements, with destructible cover and shit, but dreams don't come true.
Silpheed invokes the dark arts of Thread Necromancy..
I found this topic while searching for space shooters and damn, it sure looks interesting. Has there been any news about this game or did it just fade away?

I didn't hear anything new about it since I made this thread.
- 10 planets, each about 15 square kilometers in size.
- There's a perk: "stability to alcohol" - usefull for some missions where information can only be obtained via the wine glass!
- There is only one controllable spaceship but it can be upgraded. Upgrades are visible.
- Space sim part isn't all that impressive. Battles are fiarly dull
- Engine: not U3 but very nice.
- Physics: not that great but some tweaking still to be done.
- Overall impressions were very good
There's also White Gold from the same devs. A spiritual successor to Boiling Point, if you've heard of it.

Hopefully this one works.
Because well, if you thought an unpatched Obsidian game was buggy you never played Boiling Point.
Well the bugs were half the charm. Who can say no to flying cheetas?

....I ...I ...I want this to be Firefly, the game. I am on a slow and very temporary connection, but does anyone know if this game has a strong story or plot flowing through it? I means, star wars has light vs dark side, stargate has mankinds rise in the face of the impossible, Fallout had the human flaw in a dead word, ghost in the shell questioned what it means to be human when most humans are no long flesh and blood.
I really want this to be good, even if its just STALKER in space with bright colors, I'll take it, take it hard.
So the videos make the game look like some KotOR mod of Borderlands.
That's not such a bad thing per se, but what about all the other features which were intended to make this game stand out?
Can anyone confirm/dispell the following;
- Starship travel between planets/locations in a large universe
- Space combat/free-flight?
- Organic evolving/modular weaponry that "feeds" on things for ammo?
- Planetary/atmospheric vehicles?
- Player customization beyond equipment loadout (stats? skills? RPG-like progression trees?)
- Anything else BESIDES standard FPS gameplay in a sci-fi setting?

Yes...sort of. Kind of FPS/RPG/Space-Sim hybrid.
Fuck it, i'll go download the Gamersgate version and update you all.
I've played it. Its pretty good but the translation is terrible. Also there's a sound problem, but that might just be my computer. I've only played it for a few hours but it seems pretty neat. I haven't made it into space yet. Combat (on normal) is pretty hard because you can't take too many hits and getting hurt in your arms/legs/head makes it harder to fight.

This looks pretty sexy, but is spore due out this year?

I guess/hope that they are still developing it.
So, this game came out in Russia last year and is now available in English at gamers gate. Has anyone played it, any good?
best part was the organic weaponry designs. I really like how he feeds the weapon, rather than some form of ammo. Bravo!
Is this on steam? If I buy it on Gamersgate can I put it in steam? (I like to keep all my games together)
And it's good to see that this is a thing outside of Russia now. I will eagerly keep my eyes peeled for news and impressions.

TLDR: Jim liked it, even if it has a typical Eastern feel that means it's a tad broken due to how huge the concept is.
