Wtf?
dude the xbox version is the best.
There is literally NO SLOW DOWN.
thats right children, you can play 3rd Player costumes now on the clock stage and NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THE GAME RUNNING AT 10 fps.
The only reason people play the GC version is because it has link.
is link in tourny play? fuck no! either is spawn. cuz hes broken
Game cube also decides to say, "fuck off playstation" and doesnt offer any, ANY, adapters GC>PS2, that sucks ass if you play on Horis or other gaming joysticks. at least with Xbox you can use your ps2 adapter and still play with your stick.
Oh, and if you dont even have personal experience with the Xbox, OR the gamecube, then why start crying.
If you want we can have tissues available at PAX for the sc2 tourny.

Now I know to stay away from the SC2 tourney so I don't run into guys like this...

Can we get the chemicals in. 'Cause anything's better than this.
lol, don't pay much attention to Tyler. He's just frustrated after buying a GC Hori stick just for SC2, but has no means of using it for VF4 and had to buy a new PS2 stick instead. He's quite harmless in person.
Right...no offense, but arguing about game format when its already been dealt with is kinda...redundant.
its like saying, screw democracy i want socialism. its not gonna happen.
so why even bring up a change in the format if IT ISNT GOING TO CHANGE?
know what i mean?

If there's some mass pro-GC version movement or something, I'll try to beseech the powers-that-be into roudning up some systems. But the thing people have to understand is that this is a sponsored tournament, and said sponsor wants it to be on X-Box. I would prefer GC or PS2 myself, but it's out of my hands, so I'm not gonna lose sleep over it. I'll just do what I can do adapt instead.
Most casual tournament events don't offer prizes beyond first place. Only exception out of a total of twelve events I've been to over three years was the GDFest held a year or so back in Bellevue, and prizes were given to first and second place but there were only three tournaments (so six prize packages, including three new computers). There are no sponsored tournaments at the moment so it's extremely unlikely any game gets a specific prize pool for the winner. The PAX organizers are providing prizes for a total of 13 events (7 console tournaments, 6 PC tournaments) for over 20 winners (team games) as well as the obligatory door prizes and mini-contests, all of which are supplied by the sponsors. One of the big draws to events like this is that everyone has a chance to get something, but the odds that there will be many big prizes are slim.
Smaller events (200-300 people) can rake in prizes from the $5 variety to $200 without much trouble to ensure all tourney winners get a nice chunk of gear ($150+)and nearly everyone else gets something neat. The process is very simple: contact the company, ask for sponsorship and stuff to give away as prizes, get a box a few weeks later. You'd actually have to try in order to mess that process up. Considering this is Penny Arcade, and the event is supposed to be large they'd really have to bungle things to not get prizes on the scale of new video cards from ATI or nVidia, or Xboxes and games. Considering the popularity of the site and the size of the event, ATI or nVidia should be easy enough to rope in for a big contribution, as would Intel or AMD.
If any one else is up to it, I'm gonna be dragging my PS2 along and it would be sweet if we could get a little PS2 SC2 action going. I'm pretty leathal with Hiatchi.

Gah! Why is necrid not allowed?!!?! Pooh. Guess I'll have to brush up on Ivy. I can understand banning Spawn, because that would pretty much ostricize anybody who doesn't have an X-Box, as they wouldn't know how to deal with him. But Necrid is on all of them.
I like all versions of the game. PS2 has the best controls, GC has Link, and Xbox has best graphics. The Xbox controller is fine, but if we end up playing a GC version I'm bringing my PS2 adapter

because this is being run by people that consider certain things "cheap" because they can't figure out a way around it.
I just played the xbox version yesterday. Yes I will be in this tourny. I don't expect to win but I'll probably do better than I originally thought
because this is being run by people that consider certain things "cheap" because they can't figure out a way around it.
lol, don't think so. If I was concerned with "cheap" shit, I'd ban more than half the entire roster, including my own damn character. Besides, I decided to allow Necrid anyways, but they haven't updated the rules yet.
If you still think I can't deal with "cheap" stuff, play me first round. It should be a free win.....right?
And uh, whoever said the XBox is the only one with no slowdown - the Cube version runs the same way. The only console that slows down is the PS2
It'd be great if people could bring their own system controller + an adapter if they don't want to use the Xbox controllers (I own a GC and Xbox, and prefer the GC control setup, and also, Link)
There is no need to bring your own system, as we plan on having all 3 available at each TV. I'm checking to see if it's alright for people to play other versions of SC2 on their system of choice during casual play, but tournament WILL be on X-Box.
You are free to bring whatever controller and/or adapter you want. I've already stated this multiple times.
Just some info, will probably get deleted but thats ok. The actual arcade version of Soul Calibur 2 runs on a platform designed by the people at Sony. The only difference between the platform on the arcade and the actual ps2 is enhanced dvd performance. (meaning when Cervantes does his stabing thing it doesn't lock up.) Each platform has its bugs. They aren't that big of a deal though. So stop bitching about it and start practicing.
Okay, so I play a lot at home but never in tournaments, and I don't get the problem with Necrid. I mean, I've used him and he seems pretty good, but as far as I can tell he's banned in a really lot of tournaments and I don't get why. Is there some cheeser tactic I haven't figured out?
No, it's just that nobody likes or cares for him. I'm thinking about allowing him, so the rules need to be updated.

Im looking into going to PAX, and SC2 would be the thing I look forward to most. I would like to play the West coasters before ALL SC2 players die out :?
Zig I have a few questions. If you allow converters (mainly PS2) I assume you allow the use of remapping on free mode before matches? If so, can you map A+G B+G ect on PS2 Pads? I hav a goofy config I have used with my friends since Soul Edge I still can't get outta the habit of. I usually have no problems on the east coast doing so, but I was wondering if there was any analittity over there about it?
If not I will just bring my Stick. Although I'm not as good on stick, its not a huge difference.
Oh and if I do show up, B:L you better be there cause I'm CALLING YOU OUT!
ok the reason behind the ban on spawn and necrid is that they are not playable in the arcade. I'm sure this has been stated, but really, stop the ranting.
How about those of us who suck at Soul Calibur have an anti-tournament? We could bring up a PS2 with SC II, and play to see who loses the most games by the end of the night! Bonus points for finding ways of accidentally killing yourself, such as jumping off of the ledge.

Second Prize: 6 Months Supply of Energy Drinks
Third Prize: $100 Gamestop Gift Certificate
how's that sound?
Cause...bleh on Energy Drinks...
Tyler-You better play your best, fucker, 'cause I need an X-Box for XX#Reload. None of that uber-turtle-Ivy bullshit. Rush that shit down!!!
everyone who i play against is going to wish they were never born.
Then Ric figures you out and X kills Ivy.
Damn you for banning Spawn...you can't do that!

Yes, you can bring your own copies of games, but the XBOX version will be used for tournament play, so there's really no reason to do so.
