We have guests (in laws) staying at my house soon. I want to make sure my asshole niece doesn't do anything like shes done in the past so I want to protect myself by placing camera to observe a room. I've seen parents use these when they distrust their babysitter.
Any good cheap recommendations that are unnoticeable?

I don't know the name of the software, but I know some people that use their PC's + a webcam for that sorta stuff.
Might take a little google-fu but I'm sure you can find something.

That sounds cool. A wi-fi version would be perfect so I can download it to my PC. So far I hadn't found such a device on the web yet.
If she's going to be in the room with the comp and you have a webcam, you can probably set it up to motion capture. I suppose it depends on what she tends to get up to and where, but a friend of mine caught a mouse on his and then later caught the death of said mouse via mousetrap.
I'm I the only one who finds it odd that you want to put a camera in your niece's room?
I feel like it's important that you tell her (and her parents) that it'll be there, recording her.
I actually feel like it's more important that you not put a camera in your niece's room. It's a huge invasion of her privacy. If you're concerned about her behaviour, you could ask her parents to have a talk with her -- or ask them to leave her at home. It's not really your responsibility to put up with her, but it is your responsibility not to violate her privacy.
Of course, if you're just positioning the camera to watch the house liquor cabinet or something, then I cheerfully withdraw my concerns and offer my apologies.
Well he never actually said it was her room, just a room. And im wondering why as well?
My guess is that he's putting it in his room, due to her performing "asshole"-ish acts in the past.
Correct. She stole $1000 cash from my brother in-law and tried to run away. So hence my paranoia. I just want to place a camera in my bedroom since thats where i have a lot valuables.

soooo... wouldn't a lock on the door be better?
There are some that will lock the door every time it's closed and only require a half-turn to open the door locked in such a way - just keep the key on one of those leashes that attach to the pants.

I have no experience with it. Freeware for 21 days.
I'm not sure, but it looks like it only takes pictures. Would that be enough?
or... maybe this?

again, never used either, just ran across them on google.
"pc webcam surveillance" seems to hit for quite a few things on google.
