I think what would bring me around on the new Zelda is if it featured a lot of really vibrant "town" environments like Windfall Island in Wind Waker, or the starting town (forget what it was called) in Twilight Princess, or, you know ... like Majora's Mask. I don't think it's something that applies to everyone or even a majority of fans of Zelda games, but what I've really grown to enjoy in them more than the dungeons, or the minigames, or the overworld travel, is when you get a really cushy bunch of NPCs that you can actually fucking care about.
The multitude of small "side-quests" for Windfall in Wind Waker is my favorite part of the game every playthrough. I mean, it probably helps I always forget where at least one of the Killer Bees is hiding every time. That helps. But just generally pushing the environment and NPCs, I think, is what would sell me on what otherwise looks so far to be pretty generic but with controls that might ultimately make it very generic but very fun.
We saw a 5 minute demo and a 30 second trailer. The game is coming out next year. Maybe, MAYBE, we haven't seen everything there is to see.
But no, you're probably right about it being generic and everything, because we've seen it all.
I honestly can't think of a single system with a better pre-launch announced software list. The launch will obviously be weaker than that list, but still. Dayum.
I loved Saints Row 2. The franchise gets a laugh because no one expects it to be a bragging point. It's not a very high-level franchise even though it's sales have been good.
I must say I was very impressed by Nintendos press event, technical hiccups aside. I don't think there was a game that I was genuinely disinterested in the enitre time and the announcement of big titles that weren't leaked and the 3DS support made it all the more sweeter. Certainly blew microsoft out of the water.
Ease off Gravija, I talked about what I wanted and I even prefaced it by saying that I didn't think it would be what everyone wanted. At no point, either, did I say that I didn't expect -- or did expect -- features like that in this teased Zelda. And yes, I mean, it is okay to call what we've seen so far to be very generic ... because, well, everything so far is generic and same-y. It's okay to say that, and it's also okay for you to say, "give them time, this is a long ways off."
I was just riffing about how I hope the game develops, and yes, saying that the teaser failed to excite me because it focused on elements that didn't touch on what makes recent Zelda games more or less engaging to me personally. I did also, of course, also conclude that post by saying that even if it was ultimately very generic, the controls might make it ultimately very fun in spite thereof! So neener neener.
Don't make me be a badguy here and start calling people out on that, please? duck nailed someone for it yesterday (but I didn't rat them out, but was still accused of it).

So yea, Zelda demo pretty much sucked...but there is plenty of time, and I don't worry about that. We can't really say just how different the game will actually be from past games due to how little we saw here.
I wasn't expecting a DKC sequel/return...which is pretty awesome.
Also: Kirby yarn game looks so awesome...so so awesome.
So...should is there something that is wrong with me that I was more excited about a new 2D Donkey King Country than anything else they announced?
Don't get me wrong pretty much everything in the Nintendo conference was pretty awesome, they learned a lot from the absolute failure last years E3 was (for all of the big 3 conferences), but DKC is pretty rad.
those SFIV screens don't look very good, what's with the jaggies
One thing's clear, those developers who said the 3DS had the power of a PS3/360 were talking out of their asses. That, or you need that kind of power to display PS2-like stuff in 3D.
Which, if that's the case, really kind of makes it a shame it's in 3D at all, I'd rather have Uncharted 2 portable-like visuals, thanks.

Jesus fucking Christ this conference
This fucking conference
They knew exactly what to announce and what to say and what to do
Aside from the shaky beginning, with all the interference or whatever making Shiggy look the fool (whoever is responsible for that backstage is so dead) and Just Dance 2 and Wii Party (only two casual games? is this bizarro earth?) they knocked it out of the fucking park
3DS stuff you didn't know! Depth slider, analog nub, backwards compatibility, motherfucking 3D movies, constant online connectivity in Wifi areas, automatic downloads even if you're playing other things, and gyroscopes and motion sensors and improved graphics and KID FUCKING ICARUS
And those third party games are incredible franchises to grab! Seriously! Holy shit! How did they get Metal Gear Solid and Street Fighter and Resident Evil and all this other shit? HOW?!
Christ I am going to be so broke when this fucking thing comes out! I HAVE NO MONEY NINTENDO, DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING TO ME?!
Posts
so many possibilities
..... where in the world did you find these pics
Gotta say, nice visuals for a handheld.

In 3D!
Quake and Quake2 were done, but unofficially.
But he's running around a forest!
Ocarina clone, for sure.
Because it had forests.
Those look kinda like the iphone pics.
Hidden in the press kits. There's asset packs with more pics of other games, but their servers are being hit hard.
Doesn't seem like Kid Icarus at all.
Aye, made it worse as they could have been official, especially as the iPhone is getting Q1 according to Carmack.
I noticed that too, and chuckled myself.

Kid Icarus was kind of awful though so this is a good thing.

Dude, don't even talk to me. I lived to see the next Kid Icarus. I was there when it began.
exactly what I was thinking.
I always remember the name/password, but never the site, got a link?
Talks about face tracking and gyroscopes combining to give extra 3D effect.
next: Duke Nukem Forever 3DS.
That to me is the cleverest new thing about the 3ds. Well, that and the movies. And the 3d camera.
Man, I really didn't expect them to make me want a 3DS so much.
My one complaint: WHERES MY F-ZERO?
I mean, really, who can honestly say they expected Saints Row to come to a Nintendo platform?

FOR FUCK'S SAKE PEOPLE PILOTWINGS, THOUGH
...
I loved the first one.
Good info though.
Gyroscope, face tracking, anolog stick.
Which doesn't stop them from loading.

the "dungeon" levels sucked though. Immediately said fuck it and used gamefaqs maps for those.
Who honestly expected half of those games to ever show up.
It's not as if Nintendo's third party support has been stellar.

Benefit of the doubt: looks better in motion. Screenshots rarely do it these days when it comes to graphic quality.
