The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
- $27 new.
- Never owned it or played it, except for the demo.
- LBP2 is out in November.
From what I've seen, it doesn't seem like custom content is going to carry over from LBP1 to LBP2. I haven't seen anything explicit there, but the way I parse the text of the trailer I've seen, it doesn't seem so.
So this leads me down two trains of thought:
1) LBP1 will have unique content, so maybe it's worth getting now before its unavailable.
2) LBP2 will essentially replace LBP1 with none of the existing user-created content being compatible, so it's not worth it.
Also, is there a fleshed-out single player campaign that's worth $27 or what?
I can't imagine an amount of time passing that would make something narrated by Stephen Fry not worth it.
That being said, point 2 is pretty important, but there is just so much awesome LBP1 content that would be a shame to pass up.

LBP1 is such an awesome game (and definitely a great way to lose time, omg). If you're worried about stuff not carrying over, just don't get too emotionally invested in most of your created content. Sit down with it and play it for the absolute joy that it is.
Also, the co-op content is great. Even if you think it'll be replaced, it's worth having IMO.

And it seems like all is dying, and would leave the world to mourn
I believe it was confirmed that custom content WILL carry over, in that they said all of your existing levels will be playable.
Unless you're talking about content like photographed stickers from your Playstation Eye.

I don't believe they've said anything about deleting the current content, either. If you need to pop in LBP 1 to play LBP 1 online levels, I don't think that's the end of the world.
Although I will say that my wife and I enjoyed playing the actual game more than we did playing the custom levels. More sense of completion and progression. The custom levels have a lot of awesome stuff in them, to be sure, but since there's no motivation to completing them, the good-but-challenging levels are easier to simply give up on, and the good-but-easy levels don't offer any replayability. As such, the designed levels were what kept my wife and I playing for a good month or so, and when we wanted a break we'd hop into the custom stuff for a little bit.
It's sort of like Uncharted 2. If you actually like the game, then you should play Uncharted 1. If you actually like the platforming in LBP, then you'll enjoy playing 1 or 2 in general. I'd argue that spending $27 now for everything you get in LBP is a good deal, because then you'll have something fun to play (since nothing good ever comes out in the summer) and you can find out if you actually like playing it. LBP is going to be more, sure, but is going to fundamentally be similar to the first game.
I'm fairly addicted to it currently. I saw others playing it quite a bit and was like, "meh", but after you play one level by yourself, you're hooked. I say go for it.

yes. it's not immense, but it's joyous and perfectly crafted and full of collectibles and secrets - exactly like a platformer should be
I love LBP so much, and I'd say get it if you have the money.
Pirates Of The Caribbean parts pack
The Incrediables parts pack
- any costume packs that fit your fancy.
The GOTY gives you the Metal Gear one and with those 3 you'll have pretty much ALL the parts and pieces you'll need.
Anyone else have good packs to pick up?
