A All Flesh Must Be Eaten PbP game
zombiecowboy5.jpg

It's 1851 and the rush for wealth in California is in full swing. Thousands of people are traveling West for the gold, riches, and fame. However, with all the gold seeking prospectors flooding this untamed land, there will be dangers such as Outlaws, wild animals, and other things.

Welcome to Yellow Rock, California. Grab your six-shooter.

This is a All Flesh Must Be Eaten game with a side of Fistful o' Zombie for a Western style game. You will be playing Survivors or Norms, I'll let y'all pick. Just remember that this will be full of shoot outs, trains, and zombies in a John Wayne/Clint Eastwood movie like setting. If you don't have either the core book (All Flesh Must Be Eaten {Original or Revised. I'll be using Revised}) and/or the Fistful o' Zombie setting guide, don't worry. I'll give you the info you need and help you make your character. I'm looking for 4 to 5 players, with enough interest I'll think about maybe 6. I'm looking for people to post at least once a day on weekdays. I'm fine if you can't on weekends or holidays.

Town Background:

Yellow Rock is one of the many “gold rush” towns that popped up almost over night. Just outside the Black Bear Mountains, this town is one of many stops for gold miners traveling north from San Francisco. It's a typical town with a hotel, a saloon, general store, jail, and stables. Parker Bros. Mining Company hires many of the Chinese that come to America to work in their mines. But stories are told of many men losing their lives in the unsafe work conditions there. Three gangs ride outside of Yellow Rock, the O'Doyle gang to the south likes to rob trains and river pan prospectors. They claim Hanging Creek' an abandon ranch, as their home. The Nelson gang rides in the east and part of the mountains. They attack small settlements and wagons coming from the east. They hide out in Fort Contra. The last is the Red Dragon gang in the north. This gang is mainly Chinese who either stop working for the Parker Bros. or have family that is or did work for them. They spend their time attacking anything that helps the Parker Bros. make money. However, they have started fighting the Nelson gang over control of some of the mountain trails and caves. It's believe that the Red Dragon gang have a secrete cave town in the mountains, but no one has ever seen it. The Sioux Indians roam around the southeastern area near Blackplains. They attack small wagon caravans and lone settlers. It's rumored that O'Doyle gang trades with the Sioux to keep the tribe from attacking them.
The railroad comes through Yellow Rock from San Francisco. Three trains a day stop in Yellow Rock before moving north to Parker Bros. Mine to drop supplies and put up any gold that's been found. O'Doyle gang will sometimes rob the trains as it comes from San Francisco, Red Dragon or Nelson get it after it's been to Parker Bros. Mine. The train normally has armed guards on it.

There are a few settlements and ranches area the area of Yellow Rock. The nearest town is Redmint, about a day's ride south from Yellow Rock. It's mostly a thieves' town, were those running from the law go. In the west there is DeBois Ranch, were Samuel DeBois has his cattle ranch. The church is northeast of town, were Father Richardson spreads the word of God every Sunday.

Recruiting is closed. And since I only got 4 characters posted, they are the ones who got in. CONGRATS!!!! IC Thread is here.

Snowdown: Ephraim Johann Fleicher
Ephraim Johann Fleicher grew up an American Born German Lutheran in the midwest. His family were butchers who immigrated here prior to his birth.

Ephraim was brought up as a strict Lutheran. At his family's request, he studied to become a Lutheran pastor. At the age of 16, his parents were murdered by a gang fleeing from a posse who robbed their store for food to continue their flight.

The event profoundly changed Ephraim. His faith, previously unwavering was lost and he rejected God and the Lutheran church, turning down the option to be ordained a true Lutheran pastor.

Ironically, after losing his faith Ephraim turned towards the very violence that cost him his family.

He joined a gang and participated in all of the sins that he grew up believing were wrong; rustling, robbing, whoring, and killing.

Ephraim rode with the Tilghman gang until they lost their charismatic leader William Tilghman a few years ago. He earned his nickname "Preacher" from the priest's garb he wore and his tendency to quote scripture. As a shoe in for his replacement Ephraim shocked the gang by abandoning them and fleeing west.

Ephraim has been giving in to wanderlust, never staying in one place for too long. He has abandoned the bloodthirsty ways that have been his entire life for the past 5 years but they're still very much a part of him, as are the ways instilled in him by his faith.

Not long after making his way West from the boat that carried him to this fabulous country, Michael O'Halloran soon earned a name for himself in the things that drove him out of his home country: poker playing, pick pocketing, gun fighting, and general skullduggery. If it involved the other side of the law, it was fair to say he had a hand in it. And yet, Michael was atypical for a rogue in the West in that he had his own code. Only fleece the suckers if they're not able to wise up to you. If a fellow shows you kindness, repay the favor. Only antagonize those who deserve it, but make sure that you crush your enemies.

Even with his reputation, and that recent incident in the Utah territories with a local hoodlum gang that wanted him dead, life was certainly starting to be something Michael was interested in again, compared to the tiny life he had in his tiny homeland.

Then zombies started showing up.

Most onery cuss in the West, even more onery than the dead folk, and that's some serious onery. Dead folks walkin' around after he buried 'em proper just ain't right, and Ezekiel, well, he don't like things bein' out of place. Makes him downright onery.

Ezekiel's real tall, too, an' real skinny, way too skinny than a man his size has any right to be, nearly seven foot with long, bony fingers, and long, stringy hair, grey and dirty comin' down to his neck. Shovel of his as big as him, too, he uses it mostly now for whackin' dead folk, too many of em to dig proper holes for.

"I was born and I've been living. My parents died while I was still just a boy, this meant I had to become hard. Hard to Kill, hard to beat, hard to get to know, and hard in personality."

Early on Jack started riding with some cowboys, he chased cattle, herded cattle, and learned all about what it means to survive in the Wild West. He learned to rely on only himself. Very early he discovered his knack for gun play. He could shoot holes in silver dollars and outdraw most everyone he met. It made him reckless and cruel. The helplessness of being without parents, unable to fend for himself was replaced by power, power he could use to hurt and manipulate. As a young man he developed a taste for the ladies and developed a rugged charm that combined with his gun-play lead to him being the center of attention. His skill with the horse and gun made him a very good cattle driver and he soon became quite wealthy. Making money by buying and selling his own cattle as well as herding for others. Finally he became independent. Sometimes even herding alone, with danger at every turn, and a herd that could scatter at any moment, he earned a name for himself, Mad-eye.

In town he could be found in the bar, drinking and smoking. He was never one to crack a joke or laugh, but his natural charm combined with a knowledge of some fantastic stories from myth and legend made him an, if not welcome, at least bearable guest. The primary grievences with him was that he like to fight and sometimes had his way with women in ways that bordered on the illegal. Fortunatly for Jack, his generous contribtions to the town and particularly the church (Although he almost never attended) kept him out of jail and if the threat did loom, he had a knack for feeling those kinds of situations and even if he were in a drunken stupor, he always seemed to be ready to leap onto his two mustangs and flee into the wild. His two horses, Flame and Thunder, were his only two constant friends. Them, Jack would protect with his life if neccassary.

In his travels, Jack had caught sight of strange sights. Human shapes feeding on raw meat. He chalked it up to drunkedness and hallucinations. Still it had inspired some terrrifiying tales to tell the youngsters.

Jack is now in town, his current herd is inside a fence by his mostly unlived in home a few miles from the town.

Combat stuff:
Stuff needed to know for combat:

Initiative roll is 1d10+ Initiative modifier.

Striking an enemy (hand to hand or guns) is a skill roll of 1d10+ Dex+ any skill you believe goes with the attack (i.e Shooting a pistol is handguns skills)

Dodging attacks are 1d10+Dex+Dodging against any attacks or Brawling for hand-to-hand for chance to block and counterattack.

Damage is done depending on what weapon you are using.

Smooth Barrel Pistols/Derringers = 1d8x2
Pistols = 1d8x3
SB Muskets = 1d8x4
Rifled Muskets = 1d8x5
Carbine = 1d8x4
Rifles = 1d8x5
Shotgun = 1d8x6
Napoleon Cannon = 1d10x10
Gatling Gun = 1d8x5
Bow and Arrow = 1d6x2
Tomahawk (Thrown) = (1d4+1)x Str
Tomahawk (Close Combat) = 1d6x Str
War Lance (CC) = 1d6x Str
Saber (CC) = 1d8x Str
Dynamite = 1d6x2x number of sticks (Ranges 3/10/20)
Nitroglycerine = 1d10x ounces used. (Ranges 1/5/10)

Combat Tricks
Fanning- This trick is holding the hammer (the part at the back of a pistol that the shooter cocks back before shooting the gun.) and pull the trigger. After that, the shooter holds the trigger and smacks the hammer back so that it bounces back and can fire all six bullets quickly. The shooter can hit as many targets as they like in front of them (180 degrees). Each shot is a separate attack roll, fired at a -2 penalty.

Lassoing- This is using a rope to capture a target alive. To rope a non-animal target, roll a skill check (1d10+Dex+Lassoing skill) and the target will roll a dodge roll (1d10+Dex+Dodging Skill). If the ropers succeeds, the target is captured. If the target succeeds, the rope's noose is undone and the roper must use a turn to reset the rope. Each turn the target is capture, they can use an Escape roll (1d10+Str/Dex+Escapism skill). The roper just has to use a Lassoing test (1d10+Str+Lassoing Skill) to hold on. Lassoing the neck does 2xStrength damage.

Shooting from a Horse- Shooting from a Horse is -1 if the horse is standing still, -2 if it's moving (If the horse is jumping, running, attacking, ect.) Horses can also be used for cover. Targeting something behind a horse is -4.

Dynamite/Nitroglycerine- Exploding either causes damage at different ranges. Dynamite damage is doubled at Ground Zero (first number in range measured in yards), normal damage at the General Effect zone (area between the second number in range and the 3th number, measured in yards) and halved at the Maximum Range (3th number in range +5 yards).

    Sounds cool in a slightly tongue and cheek sort of way. I'd like to go survivor, granted thats because this seems to be begging for a group ala Seven Samurai/The Magnificent Seven.

    This is my situation as well. So if you don't get enough people who are knowledgeable, or better yet actually own the books, I'd be happy to join and learn as I go along.

    Or if you're down with newbie shennanigans from the getgo then I'm game.

    Just so everyone knows were you characters would fall in with the whole Norms and Survivors thing, Norms would be Saloon Girls, Farm hands, Poker players, ect. Survivors are lawmen, outlaws, gunslingers, bounty hunters, ect. Preachers and Indian Medicine Men are Inspired so don't play them.

    I'd like to play a survivor although I'd be happy to switch him to a normal if you need.

    I really only added the pastor stuff in there for flavor, for a chance to play off character development ala; does the fact that the living dead exist prove/convince him that God exists? If he does exist, does the fact that they're released make him angrier, for unleashing it on the world, or make him turn towards God?

    Never really intended for him to lean towards receiving any type of powers.

    This reminds me however, I should run a Hunter: The Reckoning game on here sometime.

    Maybe once things settle down here a bit.....

    Making the character now!

    There is another AFMBE game going at the moment, but I believe only 2 of the 5 or so people who had expressed interest in this game are playing in that one (myself and farangu) and I know I'm definitely still down for the western.

    So lets get this rollin!

    Samurai, I left my home PC off, so won't be able to RDP in and finish up my character today.

    Plus it's my wife's birthday.

    Look for something tomorrow!

    Its all cool, Snowdown. I've seen your character so you're good, I just want it on thread.
