So, I have a bit of a problem. I am trying to buy a computer chair, similar to this chair:
for someone in the United States, specifically in Massachusetts. I live in Canada, and have attempted time and again for the past few days to buy a computer chair for said person online with a Canadian billing address and a US delivery address. The monetary conversion is not a big deal, and people send stuff to each other like gifts cross border all the time without issue. So I assumed that it would be the same with buying this piece of furniture and sending straight to my friend as a gift.
I've tried at least 6 different websites, some specializing in office chairs and some with free shipping, the whole nine yards, and I've tried to buy some different chairs similar to the one I pictured above, but every time I go to checkout with the different addresses, I am unable to do the transaction. They can't ship for me or, more commonly, they won't accept my billing address. Why this is the case, I don't know, and I'm being persistent and googling the shit out of this, but so far I've had no luck and it's annoying me.
Anybody around here know a good website or company for doing US delivery with a Canadian billing address and credit card? I'd prefer not to have to do anything like set up an account with Paypal just for this, or go to the trouble of buying a physical chair, disassembling it, sending it out and paying to send it that way... just no.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Normally an AVS mismatch is a fraud flag, because the person using the card should be able to provide the correct billing address for the card. The problem is the AVS system is poorly implemented in Canada and the UK, and no mater what address you enter (correct or not) you will cause an AVS mismatch error, causing the transaction to be declined. The only recommendation we have had from our processor is to turn off the AVS check completely, which would open us up to fraud and also higher charge processing fees.
Right now we manually process (customer has to call in) Canadian credit cards with the AVS system turned off for the one off transaction. We don't have too many Canadian customers so this works as a stop gap solution but it is quite frustrating. I've have read posts regarding this problem dating back quite a few years, I don't know why it hasn't been fixed.
I would assume a large company like amazon or maybe google (though google checkout) have figured out their own solution. But small and medium companies are likely using authorize.net and probably are not willing to manually run a transaction with the avs turned off for you. Another option is to get a US debit card from a us bank, or buy a prepaid visa/amex gift card from a store to use online.
The manufacturer was out of stock on the chair but the local store wasn't, ironically. :?
Do US banks give Canadian citizens US debit cards?
edit: I see that you're living in canada, I was amusing you were going to school state or something similar. Yes to get the checking account and debit card you will need a mailing address stateside (trusted friend or a paid PO box should work), and will need to come over to open the account. You should be able to call an american bank and ask them what is needed as a Canadian to open up an account at their bank.
edit2: ah you wanted to send it as a gift to someone in MA. Opening up an account for this is probably more than you want to do, but it might save you from hassles in the future. Otherwise you could paypal an american friend to buy the chair for you?
Maybe if I did this more regularly, yes, but at the moment I don't want to go to that amount of trouble just to get this done. I am able to buy other smaller things with my credit card easily cross border so I'd really like to do this with little hassle. I'm starting to think I might not be so lucky with this.
