edit: scroll down to the compatibility chart, seems that PAL gamers are more fucked then the rest, needing a brand new freeloader... but at least it can work. If nintendo decide to break this with a system update though.... grr.
OK, so it seemed a while ago, we had come to the consensus that the freeloader did not work on the wii. However, recent surfing revealed that code junkies are claiming otherwise:

Action Replay and FreeLoader for GameCube Work on the Wii!
The world’s going Wii crazy, despite its ridiculous name. Ever since it hit the shelves in early December, games stores the length and breadth of the country winced as an endless stream of jokers walked up to the till and declared, ‘I need a Wii’. But then, having a stupid name didn’t hurt the Game Boy, and probably won’t hurt the Wii either.
What might hurt the Wii is Nintendo’s persistent insistence on region encoding. Unline their handhelds, Nintendo’s large consoles such as the Wii and its predecessor the GameCube will only play games released in the same territory as the machine. If you have an American Wii, for example, it will only play American games. A European console will only play European games. It’s really frustrating, especially when a game you’ve really been looking forward to is released abroad several months before it’s released in your own country.
But help is at hand. As you probably know, the Wii is backwards compatible with the GameCube – you can play cube games on your Wii. Back in the day, Datel released FreeLoader for the GameCube, a nifty software solution which letsyou play ANY region of game on ANY GameCube, regardless of region encoding. We also released Action Replay for GameCube, the ultimate game enhancer which also included FreeLoader. With Action Replay, you could use exclusive cheat codes to give yourself Infinite Lives, Infinite Health, All Levels and much more, as well as playing games from outside your Cube’s region. And both Action Replay and FreeLoader work on the Wii…
If you have one of the later versions of Action Replay or FreeLoader for GameCube, you can use it on your Nintendo Wii when playing GameCube games. It won’t work with Wii – titles – it’s a GameCube product after all – but those who trade in their Cubes and invest in a Wii can carry on playing their imported GameCube games with FreeLoader and enhancing the experience with Action Replay.
“But will there be a FreeLoader or Action Replay for the Wii?â€, we hear you cry. “We want to play multiregion Wii games, and bust them wide open too!†All we can say at present is watch this space – we’re working on it, and if it’s possible, you’ll be the first to know.
For more information on Action Replay for GameCube, see our exclusive feature. Get the lowdown on FreeLoader for GameCube here. Both are available from the CodeJunkies Shop, and if you order now, you’re guaranteed to get the latest disc, which works perfectly on both the Cube and the Wii in GC mode.
When I put my freeloader (V 1.06B) in a wii, the system will not recognise it at all. Has anyone gotten a freeloader to work on their system, and if so, which version of freeloader did they have? Or is there a trick to getting it to work?

They're liars, and will not hesitant to sell you a shitty product or simply take your money and deliver and incomplete product or not deliver the product at all.
Me? I ordered their Max Media Dock.
I paid $10 for 5 day shipping.
I got it 30 days later, and it was missing a piece.
Seems to go against the experiences in here...
Was there a Wii update sent out by Nintendo that blocked Freeloadering?
I bought the European version, but looking at the bootup screen it's 1.06B.
So... has anyone gotten this to work at all anyway?
Datel have re-released the Freeloader, splitting it into three versions (PAL, US and Japanese). The old multi-system version is still being sold as well. The new US and PAL versions seem to work perfectly on their respective Wiis, by all accounts. The multi-system version doesn't.
So, basically, if your Freeloader is over a month old, you are probably out of luck. If it is one of the new region-specific ones, it should work.
My PAL 1.06E Freeloader is in the mail. I'll be able to give first-hand confirmation of its success (or failure) when it arrives some time in the next week.
Yep. Will do.
I'll also update the importing guide (linked in my Sig) with the info once I've tested it.
Well, there is no Freeloader available that will let you play Wii games yet. Freeloader only works with Gamecube games. The new Freeloader releases allow you to play imported Gamecube games on your Wii, but they don't even try to enable Wii games.
Datel is supposedly working on a Freeloader for Wii games, but it will be some time before it is ready.
This makes me sad to read.
I can give this report already. Some NTSC-UK / Revo-Europe posters have got already their own 1.0E Freeloaders, and it seems to work well. 1080 Avalanche needed few tries before starting, and it can't for some reason run Waverace's japanese promo copy that Play-Asia sells for 6 euros. Probably due poor printing quality*, as some Cube users are having same problem with the japanese Waverace disc. Interestingly enough, you can also also run your old Freeloader / Action Replay by booting its disc with new Freeloader.
* Wii's drive is way more sensivite when it comes to scratches and general print quality
P.S. That Datel's advertisement that is in the first post was for NTSC consoles. NTSC runs all Freeloader versions (except 1.05E) just fine.
OK. I've tested the new PAL Freeloader (1.06E) on my Wii. It works fine.
The first time I tried it, the Wii just rebooted. So I expected the worst. But it has worked every single time since then.
I ordered it from Codejunkies, and it took about two weeks to get here. That's pretty standard for airmail to Australia from Europe. So I'm pretty happy with the service from them.
Also, given that this has been known for some time, and that nintendo just recently put out a system update.. perhaps they're not going to be asshats about this and won't release a patch to stop the freeloader working.
That chart just became obsolete for me, I own a 1.06B Freeloader that didn't work when I first got my American Wii (it would restart my console everytime I tried to use it) but I was bored on thursday night and decided to insert it in the Wii, and I became both surprised and very very excited when I saw the Freeloader screen saying "Insert a game disc."
Man, my GC reads most discs (and gets disc read errors most of the time even though I open it to adjust the lens potentiometer) but it refuses to read Nintendo Puzzle Collection, and I even thought it was the game that was damaged, but it plays fine, save for a few details, which I will explain later) on the Wii.
I noticed a few graphical details on sprites, some of them look pixelated (some of the fairies' images on the back) and the Megavitamins of Dr. Mario look kind of incomplete (not incomplete, they're there, but the outline at the right is missing or something, it's kind of hard to explain, it's like the Wii used so much antialiasing that it doesn't fit the sprite).
But even with those graphical errors, it's great to be able to at last play that game, and to be able to play GCN imports on my Wii.
The box states that it only works on European consoles though. I assume a US variant will be available soon if it isn't already.
Edit: Froogle is our friend.
It does work perfectly for most of time, but with some rare cases, you need to use new Freeloader to boot old Freeloader, and use it to boot game. This is required because new Freeloader works in European Wii only because its region is set PAL, not Zero like the original Freeloader had. When you boot game with Freeloader, it bypasses standard region checking.
Unfortunately, some games have rather fucked-up code and check region *again* after booting. Wii's bios has Freeloader's (PAL) region on its memory and it represents it to game. Code naturally can't understand what it sees, outputs error message and crashes. If you boot your old Freeloader with new one, BIOS is set again to value that works with every possible game. I tested Freeloader with my own collection and got following results:
