So i'm having some issues with GP, and my consultants are so incredibly unhelpful it's not funny. Unfortunately i'm stuck with them, so instead of giving them more money to dick me around, I thought i'd turn to the internet. I posted on Microsoft's forum, but i'm wondering how helpful it will be, not to mention the turnaround time on an answer.
Do you guys know of any good forums for this kind of thing? Or if anyone here is good with GP 9.0, i'll post my issue here as well.
Inventory to GL reconciliation, we use SOP as well (POP too). Since it's so integrated i figured things would be relatively smooth. Unfortunately they aren't and i can't find a report that will help me figure out where things are going wrong on the way to GL.
We have consultants that our parent company pays a monthly fee to, but they are saying there is no report that does what we need, and they need to build something for us (and charge us, of course). I find that highly unlikely, as reconcilation is a pretty necessary and common thing to be able to do.
I posted a thread at the Microsoft forums, but like i said, i'm skeptical on their answers as well.
Have you tried GP customersource? You should have access to the knowledge base if your account is current, as well as the ability to contact support directly...A support ticket item for GP only costs $200, if you have a serious issue it might be worth it to get it sorted.
Otherwise, no, there is no central third party GP support forum. Everyone tends to handle their issues through their consultants, in house, or through MS directly. There are some user groups and things like that, but they tend to be pretty empty.
I handle our in house GP support, and honestly I'm dubious about findind a report that would point out problems in a reconcile. GP doesn't tend to have any reports that do direct trouble shooting, outside of check links and stuff like that. I can always give you our consultants number via pm as well.
I was going to say the same thing. I used to spend hours scouring that thing for any scrap of info on whatever I was trying to do.
I remember in years past(we have since moved on from GP) that the accountants always complained about reconciliation. I know we didnt even really use the built in reporting tools. We had a lady that was a wiz at FRX and did everything with that. If we couldnt do it in FRX then out came Crystal Reports and I wrote stuff in that.
I'm pretty ok at FRX, maybe i'll look into using that more. It's certainly more user friendly.
according to a few forums it's a giant pain to do reconciliations in 9, but apparently in 10 reports were created for just such a process. How it took them however many versions to realize you need a report bridging 2 modules is a mystery...
I wish we would move on from GP, after working with peoplesoft in the beginning of my career, this system BLOWS.

To explain:
MS bought GP when it was on version 8 and started dev work for version 9.
Most GP modules started out as third party software pre version 8. The reason there are no built in reports linking modules is a relic of this fact.
Since MS took over, they have been doing rather impressive amounts of work to create tighter integration and general user friendliness among the modules, which is why GP10 has the kind of reports you need and the older versions do not.
fair enough, i still think when modules are advertised as being integrated, you shouldn't need 3rd party software to reconcile them. That's really part of being "integrated". Alas, i am but a lowly analyst.
I need to learn some more programming so i can just do stuff on my own.

Good luck.
