Leisure Suit Larry games

Not too long ago, I discovered some collections of famous Sierra games on the market. Nostalgia got the better of me, so I recently ordered the King's, Space, and Police Quest compilations. However, I also noticed a compliation of the Leisure Suit Larry games (also classic Sierra adventure games). Thing is, as I was a kid when I played these for the first time, I never got into LSL. I think you were supposed to be 21 to play them as they were adult-themed. But now they have piqued my interest. I am hoping someone here can tell me just what the LSL games are like. Is it some sort of porn game series with sex and nudity galore? If so, I will pass...I just want to have fun with the game, not get off to it. But I don't see how they could have reached such a summit of popularity, if so. It also seems a rating of AO would suit it better, then, instead of the M that it has. If not, what is it like, exactly? Raunchy Family Guy-ish humor? That, I would probably like, as I own every season of FG on DVD. =P

The bottomline is, I do not want to purchase a game intended for perverts with much nudity. But if that's not what these are, I would consider trying them out since I love the other Sierra games so much. I am just asking here because I have no way of knowing. Thanks for your time.

They're really funny point-n-click adventures with a raunchy sense of humour and a narrator with a dirty mind.

It's possible to see nudity, but only by entering a cheat code. If you don't go looking for it you won't see any.

That's not entirely true; there are a few segments in the various games that have nudity without entering any code.

For instance, in the third game (I think), there's a telescope in the place you start that looks into a woman's bedroom. If you scored high enough on the opening quiz (thus "proving" you're an adult), the scene you see involves nude 16-color tits.

Well, I'm not offended by the simple presence of nudity, but if it and/or sex becomes the point in playing/watching something, then I lose interest. So far based on your responses, my interest in still piqued. Thanks. =)

oh, no. The point, like all good adventures, is the story and the puzzles.

Target: That's interesting. I only really played the later games; can't stand the text parsers or low-depth graphics.

I wish you had been there when I was about 14ish. I remember me and a friend managed to get a copy of LSL 2 or 3 somehow and we obsessed over trying to find nudity in the damn thing. You could have saved us a huge chunk of disappointment. Thank god we managed to lie and get an adult login to a BBS system for our porn needs.

Well, the aim of the first game (and I think at least one of the later ones) is to get laid.

There's nothing graphic in this regard, though, at least in the ones I played.

This was, incidentally, part of why a lot of people were turned off by the "Magna Cum Laude" game; it wasn't anything like the original games.

Quick note: If you're thinking of buying the Collection that recently came out, you may want to take note of the fact that it does not include the last LSL game (not counting MCL), "Love For Sail". Y'see, that was a Win95-only game, and the collection uses a DOS emulator. The whole thing was very lazy on Vivendi's part.

Sadly, the original collection Sierra put out (like ten friggin years ago) goes for insane prices on eBay.

I did, however, pick up the old-timey Police Quest Collection, complete with manuals and HUGE BOX, for $4 at Bookman's.

The things that did it for me with the other collections were the "Runs on Windows XP" tag and the fact that it's a mostly-complete collection of games and manuals on one CD. I read the XP compatibility just means that it installs a DOSBox underneath the game, but that's fine with me. I don't have much in the ways of alternatives.

I'm glad you pointed that out to me about MCL. I searched Google for some screens of LSL games and got a bunch of shots of what appeared to be very much a 3-D porn game, but they all turned out to be from MCL.

As for the setting of the first game, that is harmless enough by itself. I mean, what was the underlying plot of American Pie? And that certainly can't be considered a porno. By sex and nudity being the point, I just meant that in the sense that it is mainly supposed to arouse you and make you want to jerk off.

My concern is pretty solidly addressed now, so thanks again for the info, everyone. It's much appreciated.
