He's the horrendously annoying spin off from Sony's previously enjoyable PS3 campaign where they have forgotten that the reason Kevin Butler is funny, is because there is a divergence between his appearance and attitude to games alongside his acting chops. The new kid is the PSP spokesman, but is of course, lame.
yeah no, not like these are bad. just, when going up against kevin butler it falls short. i haven't even own any sony products since my PSP broke but i like their ads recently a bunch more than most ads on TV.
I actually like the Marcus commercials. Much better then other ad runs they've done.
Except Kevin Butler. If I had nothing, and someone gave me a tuna sandwhich, I'd be OK with it. But, this is like if I was eating a steak and the waiter came up and said, "Hey, you like steak? You'll love this Tuna Sandwich!" and then took away half the steak to give me have a tuna sandwich.

Well, I sort of get it. The PS2 is about as active as the Dreamcast now, and Sony has always sold the image of the Playstation 3 as the high-end system. And suddenly, somebody realizes that they can't sell the PS3 to kids who can't drive yet. At least, not in this economy. So Sony has to make the PSP look like the thing for younger audiences so it looks like they're covering that section of the market with something.
I mean, that's my best guess, anyway. Kevin Butler's charm isn't going to work on a 13 year old.

It's more basic than that. PSP sales have stalled over the last two years in the United States, and software sales have been utterly pathetic for longer than that. The problem is the PSP is actually doing fairly well in Japan, so they feel they can't kill the system just yet. So Sony, ahem, worked with western publishers for a few big exclusive PSP games a while back (which very likely involved paid exclusives) and a corresponding media blitz. That didn't work. Then Sony tried to revive interest with the PSP Go. That didn't work.
Marcus is part of Sony's third attempt to kick-start PSP sales, along with big price cuts on lots of recent games. This probably won't work either; since "relaunches" of struggling systems rarely succeed.
The true failure of the PSP lies in how terribly it has positioned itself for a successor system.
And this ad campaign isn't going to help that.
Oh yeah. The long-term weak software support, lack of hardware price drops and the Go have likely generated quite a bit of negative perception toward it from the general market, so the PSP2 will have to somehow overcome that. And that's before you factor in that damn near everyone, from developers to forum folk, are having multiple orgasms over the 3DS.
I've said it before, but the PSP2 could do everything exactly right and still be utterly boned.
I just don't understand why Sony did an apparent 180 in their advertising. the PSP was always positioned for "Adult" gamers. Now these new commercials seem to be saying the opposite. So confusing.

huh, not as funny without the swearing
And yes, this is Sony's big idea to make the PSP sell more or somesuch.
Sigh... they were doing so well with Kevin Butler...

PSP - I have a family to feed.
Good to know they are showing it the right times, then!
There's nothing like seeing it 1-2 times a commercial break during The Colbert Report and Tosh.0.
"Dude, get your own"?
That creepy PS3 baby?
"All I want for Christmas is a PSP"?
The "Black and White" PSP ads?
THE CRASH BANDICOOT COMMERCIALS???
Half of Tosh's audience is composed of stupid 15 year olds laughing at dumb people hurting themselves.

Ahhh that was classic, even more classic was when Mario 64 came out shortly after and raped everything.
