Curst prison behind me (Planescape, your combat is so bad, why do you persist with these slog-fests?) and now a dilemma.

To recruit Vhailor or nay? And if so, who to drop and doom to an eternity in Curst prison? I think it'll have to be Grace. Again the strength of the story shows in that I'm making my decision based on characters rather than utility.

To be fair, I'm always playing a Chaotic aligned character, and if Vhailor sees you committing any crimes ever......it's not good.

A friend of mine recently told me that he had seen Planescape: Torment down in the local media outlet store. I didn't really believe it, maybe it was just an old copy or something like that. In any case I decided to check it out the next day...

And lo and behold! He was telling the truth. There wasn't only 1 copy, but a whole five copies. And they were in mint condition!

Those were the fastest $17.51 ever spent. I didn't even think twice about that purchase.

Thanks to the corporate dude who decided "hey, let's reprint this 12 year old game!". :D

Edit: And it looks like the game has been optimized for newer versions of Windows (98/ME/XP/Vista) according to the box.

I thought fall from grace was a required character what with her being the only cleric in the game.

Fall From Grace is awesome because she is voiced by Jennifer Hale and

If you still have Ignus, Vhailor and him just. don't. get. along.

Ignus was dropped a while back for Nordom. It's mainly that I hear that he's a combat monster and anything that can get me through fights with less effort sounds like a godsend. You're right on Grace's healing making life easier though. Maybe it's time to part with Nordom then? I can't drop Morte, Annah or Dak'kon as their lives are all too tied to TNO for kicking them out of the party to feel like anything but betrayal.

How strict are we talking with Vhailor? Can I no longer have Annah hoovering up goodies from every locked container I pass for example?

Vhailor is voiced by Keith David, if that affects anything.

Really shocked by the VA in this game.

Man, if you're trying to 'power game' you character choice, then you're truly missing out on the best part of this game.

The 'best' party is the boringest party. The 'weakest' party is by far one of the best put together set of characters ever created.

I am so totally not power gaming it! I said I wanted to make my decision based on a balance of utility and character.

Turns out I can have my cake and eat! I was going to complement the game on what I stumbled upon but it turns out it was a genius little addition in the tweak pack.
    7. Save Nordom!
Most sociable players without metagaming knowledge will leave Sigil with a full party, especially if they've found Nordom by then. When you encounter Vhailor in the Curst Underground, you are then forced to make a horrible decision: leave Vhailor where he is (which basically just writes all his content out of the game) or strand one of your current party members in Vhailor's prison with no way out forever (usually poor Nordom). Not for any good reason, just because of the arbitrary party size limit of 6.
This tweak allows you to... Save Nordom! The requirements are this: You must be in the area where you found Vhailor. You must have Vhailor in your party. Nordom must *not* be in your party. And you must have the Modron Cube with you. If you meet those requirements, talk to Nordom before you leave, and he will suggest the means by which he may be saved, so that you can get him back when you finally return to Sigil.
This is a completely original work created by me (Qwinn). It contains new dialogue, I hope you like it and find it in character.

Right after the prison you get crazy amounts XP, I recommend dropping the party doing the quests in curst solo, and grinding for like 15-20 mins, you will level up so fast that the combat becomes trivial for the rest of the game. Just grab your party members after that.

Combat is pretty trivial in this game, especially if you play it the 'right' way.

Vhailor is turning out to be a big dull dud.

I don't fancy gaming the system but I must be playing it 'wrong' in Casually Harcore's eyes as combat is a massive drag for me.

Vhailor has a few super super awesome conversations but is all together not nearly as cool as Nordom.
Vhailor: When the injustice is great enough, justice will lend me the strength needed to correct it. None may stand against it. It will shatter every barrier, sunder any shield, tear through any enchantment, and lend its servant the power to pass sentence. Know this: There is nothing on all the Planes that can stay the hand of justice when it is brought against them. It may unmake armies. It may sunder the thrones of gods. Know that for all who betray justice, I am their fate. And fate carries an executioner's axe.

    Nameless One: I see.

Vhailor: No, you do not see. Pray you never will.

just convincing him of the folly of absolute justice, thereby causing him to cease existing altogether

Man I loved PS:T for stuff like that. You don't get many games where you can do something like get into a philosophical debate with a suit of armour.

Yeah. I always played a rogue-type Chaotic character, and I'd end up doing that before he'd ever get in my party. Worked out well, guy was too much of a stick in the mud for me. An AWESOME stick in the mud, mind you, but still.

And we're done! What a tale that was. The final dungeon level almost got me to tear my hair out with the constant combat but I powered through to the frankly brilliant pay off that is the ending.

I must know if you finished Buttcleft? You were like my Planescape playing buddy and last you posted you had ground to a halt in crappy, crappy Curst. Soldier on, it's so worth it!

Jesus that sounds painful. Torment indeed. That kind of depth of story isn't the kind of thing you're going to want to replay any time soon to get back to where you were.

What point specifically were you at? I or someone else might have a save at a suitable point they can send you if you want.

I lost my saves the first time through right after meeting with Ravel, that was kind of annoying. But since so much of your time is reading you can really power through the parts you already played if you make the same decisions so it doesn't take that long.

Closest I've got for you is:
Just before going to Ravel's maze. All ready to use the mobile portal.

Party and stats sounding pretty much the same as yours. If you want to give it a go then just PM me your email and I'll send it over.

If you do your install as per this page then hopefully the save will be transferable. You might not be able to enter certain small locations in Sigil due to the widescreen mod, but then again you should have no need to go anwhere back in Sigil now anyway.

In -precisely- the same boat regarding lost save, Buttcleft. I'd just got to Curst, though with Nordom instead of Ignus with mage TNO focused on Wis/Int/Cha, when the PSU decided to go kaplooey.

Still on warranty, so sent back and it returned with PSU and harddrive replaced with documentation stating it to be 'fully tested', though apparently full testing does not include making sure the disc drive isn't dead. So, replaced the disc drive believing that to be the only problem, but while it does now detect discs it still incurs system crashes whenever it tries to read one. So the problem is evidently not just the disc drive but the power surge from the PSU having fried something else, the motherboard potentially, as well as the hard disk. So sent it back, detailin' the problem, and all that happened is that they replaced the disc drive. Which has the exact same problem. Which I'd heard it'd been having from tech support when they had the computer up there, described exactly, meaning they -had- found the same problem I'd been encountering.

And then sent it back, with the problem unfixed, attached documentation once again stating it 'fully tested' and having passed QC.

Did polish the case though. So hey, it may not work worth a damn but at least it's shiny, so that's alright.

Well, sent it back -again- with them paying the courier charges this time after being adamant on that point, so here's hoping third time lucky.

...Beginning to entertain the possibility that they're stalling for time till warranty expires next week as a motherboard replacement's an expensive repair. If so, they can anticipate a colossal faecalstorm as I'm not putting up with that. I sent it back almost two months ago to get repaired and it's been back twice still broken which just isn't a good quality of service. I expect I'm just being paranoid, though, and it's just down to incompetence.

Back to PS:T, though, might actually take Ignus this time around if only because I've never done it before. It's just there's never been any indication that releasing him is anything other than a profoundly bad idea, so I never have and consequently have never seen any of what he has to offer.

Hit print screen then paste to paint.

That still works, right? It's been so long since I had to do it that way.

Edit: You might not even have to paste to paint, it might directly go to the game's folder in program files.

I remember that Infinity engine games used to simply store screenshots in the game folder, but with the modded versions it either doesn't work or I can't find the files :P

I'll try the old printscreen+paint trick then.
