Hey here's a thought (from someone who's probably completely missing the point of tabletop RPGs): What about tabletop RPG campaigns based around trading card games?
In brief, what if you took, say, M:TG as a base... drew up a list of requirements (levels, training, skillpoints, whatever), attached them to various cards (creatures as summons, spells and instants, exactly how much mana you can tap), and used the card game as a way to determine characters' abilities? Probably on modified rules or something; not so simple as "whatever cards you bring to the table," but not so strict as "you play by the rules of the original game." Maybe some selection process to draw cards at intervals, a rule allowing some number of cards to be held in a side reserve indefinitely, a rule explaining when graveyarded cards get reshuffled...
Or maybe I'm missing the point. *shrug*

My holographic Charizard is better then your stupid magic cards.
keep thinking it would be a good way to have a fun side mechanic going in the game
like a skill challenge, but with a real card game
Yeah, there's suggestions in the rules in there for incorporating it into your regular tabletop session, or if you had a limited/shorthanded session you could just have your PCs win up in a tavern playing for gold (or zee documents)
dudese are all HEY LET'S MAKE BEER PONG IN THIS PUB and I'm like are you sure you guys don't just want to go to the gladiator fights and they're like BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER POOOOONG and it was like "man you guys have a beer pong table right there, maybe just go play beer pong"

I really like this idea. Make skill challenges something that require a bit more than dumb-luck.
I always found it odd that there is a definite strategic element to combat, but the moment you're dealing with skill checks it's entirely a dice-roll with almost no input from the players themselves.

I always give bonuses to good role-playing
that's what skill challenges are basically there for
encourage role-playing while giving a mechanic

No see, combining table top RPGs with TCGs is way too easy. You gotta combing TCGs with LARPing. Go all YuGiOh on that shit.

I guess if it was any other person it would warrant a new thread, but the dude has a history of making terrible/redundant threads
but it hasn't been locked so I guess I was wrong vOv
