Majesty 2 is pretty fun, but I have yet to see any depth so far. Maybe it gets harder later, but so far I'm good just building up income as fast as I can, getting some Lords out for basic defense, and then slowly but surely getting a maximum loadout of Clerics, Warriors, and Rangers.

The formats helped but to tell the truth sometimes combos would come out in a new set no one would notice.

I think iterated games are adequate to deal with the factor you bring up.

Iterated games and table politics can deal with almost anything, but your game is in a bad space if it requires substantial iterated hate and complicated table politics in order to keep the dominant deck from simply running rampant.

Magic is at its core a game about card advantage.

Card advantage doesn't always win, but it's the safest bet.

I made this post earlier in the tread but it applies here.

The wikipedia article on American Greetings' Strawberry Shortcake contains the following section:
    General inconsistencies
A criticism from long-time fans is the inconsistency and retconning of characters, pets, scents, etc. that exists between the vintage franchise from the 1980s and the current franchise. Some examples are:
Character names - Raspberry Tart's name was changed to Raspberry Torte. Almond Tea's name was changed to Tea Blossom. Banana Twirl and Lime Chiffon have been replaced by new, rather different characters, Banana Candy and Lime Light, respectively.
Pets - Pupcake now belongs to Strawberry instead of Huck (who now has Shoofly Frog). Angel Cake no longer has Souffle skunk, but instead a lamb named Vanilla Icing. Lemon Meringue's pet frog, Frappe, is replaced by Sourball the skunk (possibly explained by the switching of Souffle skunk to Vanilla Icing for Angel Cake and switching of Pupcake to Shoofly Frog for Huck). Apple Dumplin's turtle, Teatime, is replaced by Apple Ducklin'. Rhubarb, Raspberry's pet, changed from a monkey to a raccoon. This might be explained by the existence of Banana Bongo (Tangerina Torta's monkey), although Banana Bongo himself was originally introduced as the leader of a monkey band on Seaberry Beach during the story introducing Coco Calypso and Seaberry Delight .
Relationships - Previously unmentioned sibling pairs keep popping up, such as Strawberry Shortcake and Apple Dumplin' and The Purple Pie Man and Sour Grapes. There is also some confusion about the relationship between Crepes Suzette and the younger, recently introduced Cherry Cuddler. Both have cherry scents and early promotional materials indicated that they are sisters. However, the box for the Playmates doll set indicates they are merely friends.

Hmm but does that substantially affect the flow of decision making, or is it just an increasingly more difficult timer to beat?

Right now I'm kind of guessing as I build things. Inns let heroes build parties? I guess that sounds useful. A Statue of the King makes heroes more enthusiastic? I like enthusiastic heroes... I think?

Pet peeve: games where you have to decide between damage and attack speed. Both buffs promote the same quantity, DPS, so for any given values it is always strictly better to choose one over the other. And finding out which involves solving a math problem and then checking it against the game's inner junk (in case they lie to you about some numbers).

I am playing this game to have fun, not to do a fucking math problem so I can figure out which item to wear.
