See what I did there?
Two worlds... coming for XBox 360, PS3, and PC. Basically, this looks like Oblivion +. The world is split between the civilized races and the "evil" races (led by orcs.. horde horde lol). You get to choose who wins the prize!
Yea yea, derivative. Why the hell should you be interested in this? How about a more in-depth reputation system. If you're awesome, the people love you. If you're an asshole, the people know it.
How about more freedom with weapons? Two-handers, dual-wielding, and truly useful Unarmed Combat. Let's stack mounted combat on top of that! Yea, not only can you ride a horse, but other critters as well (lizard has been confirmed), and fight while riding. Awesome.
How about online play? Not only online with people of the same system, but 360/PC Live Anywhere compatibility has been well... hinted at (they want to, are waiting on final specs etc). Tackling quests in Oblivion with a friend can only be awesome.
I want this game in a bad way. I'm sure others do as well... come, join me in the drooling.

edit: And how far along is this supposed to be? The texture work in that dungeon looks... questionable. I don't mind graphics if the game plays well, but the fact that they'd leave that area of the game so unpolished makes me worry about what they're doing with the rest.
(also edited for clarity a couple times... I really need to learn to use the preview button.)
Edit: I also love the first combat screeny. "Yeah you know I'm gonna fuck you up big boy. I'm going at you in a god damn robe and I'm not even worried. I am going to CUT you."

I don't see why. Bethesda did nothing but shitty movie licensed games in the late eighties and early nineties on the Amiga and NES before they did Terminator: Rampage and Elder Scrolls: Arena. Piranha Bytes FIRST GAME was Gothic, and all they've ever done are its sequels and an expansion for Gothich 2. All of which were also quite good.
It's the weapon and clothing design alone that sells this notion for me. Oblivion's objects lacked a lot of personality compared to the weapons/etc. in Morrowind and the earlier games in the series. It felt much more generic than any other installment in the franchise to me.
Yeah, I loved using chitin and bonemold weapons and armor in Morrowind, or the netch leather armor. Goddamn I felt awesome playing that game. In Oblivion it's either generic fantasy knight gear, "olol elves elves", or daedric stuff. That's how it seemed to me at any rate.
I don't hate Oblivion, I was just sayin...
Yeah, but they're a rare exception. I could make list of dozens of games that show that when an unexperienced, low-budget company attempts an ambitious game, there's a very small chance that it will turn out well. I won't though, because I'm lazy, and because I think you know this just as well as I do.
Also, the Bethesda that made those shitty games you mentioned wasn't the same Bethesda that made the Elder Scroll series what it is today. Even Arena was a sub-par (if ambitious) game.
I don't want to get into an argument about this, though. I really do hope this game turns out well, because even though I like the Elder Scrolls games a lot, I really think the genre could be done better by a more imaginative group of people. I'd just rather be pleasantly surprised than disappointed.
edit: And when I say Bethesda's unimaginative, I'm talking in terms of game play, not art and lore. I'm just as much a fan of Morrowind's setting as the fifty people who are about to flame me are.

Amen to that. God damn level scaling. "I'm the level 30 savior of the world and-dammit trolls! *proceeds to be genuinely threatened by fucking trolls*"

I like level scaling with limits. For example, a rat should always suck.
It's an open game world, with lots of quests, lots of weapon choices, mounted combat, a reputation system, and multiplayer. That sounds enough to get me interested. That doesn't mean I'm going to buy it immediately, but I'll keep an out for it.
Yeah, that sucked. I don't know how Bethesda didn't pick up in play-testing that it was a bad idea.
Think about it.
You charge into battle- two arms wield a battle axe, two arms shoot a bow as you charge.
You grapple a guy with your two lower arms, your two upper arms position a spike and hammer it into the enemy.
Part of me is joking, part of me wants an adventure game where you get to be Goro.
I desire sex with your sexy idea.

It's not so much as a bad idea but I think it's an idea that I just don't like. It really turns away newbie players (like me) as making a character makes it hard work because apparently it's better to put in your main skills things you don't want to be good at.
I loved doing all the side quests and exploring the place, but I eventually got really frustrated because my character was no good because I made some early mistakes, this took ten hours for me to realise and I didn't really feel like making a new character so I haven't touched it since.

Games need more
Fuck. Now I need to play Dark Sun again. Or Dark Sun Online, if it still fucking existed.
I dunno. I think the issue with character scaling is everything scales. You shouldn't be level 30 and struggling against trolls or even wild wolves and stuff. But, on the same level, humans and bigger creatures should get tougher.
I bet this game will have level scaling, though. It'll follow Oblivion's lead.
XBL/PSN/Steam: APZonerunner
If that's true, then there's no way I'm getting this game. That's simply annoying.
I doubt they're going to force it on you that hard. And I doubt it'll be hard to manage. I think the idea is cool online. HUNTING PARTIES!
I just wish stuff scaled to a limit. You know, rats could only scale so high, tigers a different height, and so on? And certain other things like oh I don't know BANDITS ALL HAVING DAEDRIC/GLASS shouldn't exist. I'm fine with a limited scaling system, but the way Oblivion implemented irritates the balls off me.

We're fucking sick of orcs. Find a new race for humans to clash with.
Sincerely,
Delzhand
I like orcs. They're true barbarians like no other and can be truly terrifying primal force if done right, as in the Lord of the Rings movies. Now to Eastern RPG Developers, I could say that it would be nice if they learned to differentiate the appearance of men and women. That would be really nice.

I think it's a great idea, especially for online play. A problem with most online games/MMOs is that it is hard to force people to sit still/commune in certain areas for anything other then trade. If you have to go to a tavern to get your eat and drink on, then you are forced to socialize. Also, it creates a realistic time and money sink.

If I don't want to sit still/commune, then I shouldn't have to. Making me eat isn't going to make me socialize in-game, it's going to make me run in, eat quickly, and then run out. If I want to socialize, I will, but if I don't want to then this won't make me.
If this works like GTA:SA, then it won't be a problem. In San Andreas, getting a bite to eat was very quick and didn't really interfere. You could also last an incredibly long time without eating. That wasn't too bad; I'm hoping Two Worlds won't make the eating/sleeping system too realistic, either.
Maybe I just don't know bloom is, but those screenshots looked a little dark to me, not bright and shiny. Oh hey, that guy is wearing a gray cloak, though. Gray is so generic and uninspiring this game sucks. Oh God you have to drink in the game what a gay game. And you can use swords? Why use swords? Swords are so unoriginal and generic this game is terrible.
True barbarians like no other... because that's all we've ever seen them do. If we need a barbaric race, why not something else? Intelligent dire apes. Yetis. Barbaric humans, even. I don't understand why Orcs are the opposite of humans.
And you're right about Eastern RPG developers, but honestly, that's not just RPGs. It's a cultural thing - strong jawlines are seen as hideous in Japan. That's one of the reasons The Incredibles didn't do so well, despite Japan's love for Pixar.
Or are the oblivion allusions just because of the outdoor settings?
The multiplayer will sell me if the gameplay is there. It doesn't have to have the best plot. I like the idea of having to eat and sleep. It adds a realism element that I enjoy in my games.
I love Oblivion. I'm on my third character and so far have only done up to the Azura part of the main quest, made my staff for the mages guild and done a handful of random quests, and I've easily put 100+ hours into this game with many more on the horizon.
The scaling is kind of a bitch, but I'm okay with it, because stealing glass armor in the first game and becoming a god ruined Morrowind for me. I'm glad that I don't have to walk by an ebony sword, all the while fighting the itch to murder the shopkeep and run away with it, ultimately unbalancing the game and causing me to never play it again.
Progression in Oblivion can be handled three ways 1) plan your character's development within a predetermined class, 2) make a custom class that places controllable skills as your primaries or 3) progress naturally without controlling your character's growth and just adjust the difficulty slider ever so slightly until it's just right. I'm going with the first path and plan to up the difficulty slider a bit once I pass level 10.
Back to Two Worlds, I'm glad that this game will appear to have some tension. I like factions that oppose eachother. It felt good in Gothic 1, 2, and Arx Fatalis ... and various other RPG's. Bethesda tries to make Tamriel this fantasy reflection of America with its multiculturism, pitting the united people against demons and other esoteric, other-dimensional threats, and it just feels kind of flat to me. So Orcs vs. Humans #234 will actually be a bit refreshing.
So basically, Oblivion is a great, but flawed game and Two Worlds doesn't, in reality, have too much to live up to to be a great RPG IMHO.
