A couple of questions about Brain Age

BTPBTP Registered User regular
edited February 2007 in Games and Technology
Is it more accurate to do the training part, and then the brain age check? Or is it the other way around?

Does the order you do the training exercises matter?

Is it more accurate to do the exercise at a certain time of day? Or can you just do it at any time with negligible effects?

To those that have managed to do the Calc x 30 multiplayer with at least 3 people, what happens if someone that isn't the host closed their DS lid after a round? (I'm assuming that once the host leaves, everyone leaves.)

According to the doctor the best time is soon after breakfast.

Ideally, you would do any three mini-games a day, then check your brain age, say, once a week or so.

Its not accurate in the first place. Its an arbitrary system.

If you don't play Brain Age, you're thinking center becomes the equivilant of a dried prune, from what I hear.

Yeah, has anyone even reported of any good coming out of this game?
I mean, is it all a crock of shit, or do you actually notice your memory improving, etc etc.
If I want to train my brain, I usually just read a novel.

    ... it has Sudoku?

It points out just how bad voice recognition software can be.

    That's about it.

I usually 'train' on the commute to work every morning. I believe it actually works, my number recognition and memory skills have vastly improved. I can now easily remember names and phone numbers. Simple math requires no longer requires thought.

To be honest, I think I 'peaked'. I get perfect scores on all of the training puzzles. Where's the sequel?

Brain Age. It's entertaining, and it can certainly help with your daily math skills.. if you need to use basic math skills periodically. It helps you get your mind charged if you've been mentally idle for a while..

If nothing else, it's kind of entertaining, plus -- Sudoku.

I've found the voice recognition to be excellent. The only problem it seems to have is with Blue, so I just have to emphasise the ooooo sound a bit, which is no big deal. For the numbers it's been all good to me. It struggles with some of the letters I write on the memory game though because I do my b's all wrong. It doesn't particularly like how I draw 5s either.

I'd say for most people I've shown it to though it shows how GOOD voice recognition can be, to them, as there are a whole bunch of people for whom this will have been their first voice recognition experience.

Does anyone have an answer to the last question?
To those that have managed to do the Calc x 30 multiplayer with at least 3 people, what happens if someone that isn't the host closed their DS lid after a round? (I'm assuming that once the host leaves, everyone leaves.)

Also, just how fast do you need to be to get above car speed on the Reading Alound training? It makes me feel like I'm a slow reader even though I know I'm reading as fast as my tongue can carry the words coherently.

When I was playing Brain Age regularly I'd do a few training games shortly after lunch, followed by my daily test. I like to be warmed up.

Let's put it this way: Without it or without coffee, I know I'm screwed for my early morning Math/CS classes.

    To answer these 2 questions:

    1) It's always better later on, or more precisely, when you are the most awake and active. My test scores are noticablly lower when done early in morning or after a long day.

    2) If anyone closes the lid or bails out, the game would complain about a connection error (having 15 other people bitching at you because you were the one who accidentally closed it, on the other hand, is hilarious as hell)

But wouldn't the part where you did your worst be the times when you'd want to use BA to improve yourself? science.gif

Well, that sucks. I was hoping that if one DS that wasn't the host dropped out, the others would be able to continue. Oh well. Thanks.

One way to look at it is that you want to score better in the game. The way I look at it is that it's a good refresher to get my mind spinning as fast as possible at the start of a new day.
