Can anyone recommend a big book that I could read that would tell me about the entirety of World War 2? Preferably from the American perspective, of course.
Hmm... what is it for? There's not really an end-all book for this. I'm a huge WWII buff. I have found that if you really want to learn about WWII, get it from all perspectives - watch the History Channel, read The Diary of Anne Frank, read Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, etc.
The final two suggestions only cover one of three Axis powers. There's still Japan and the Greeks to read about, and Rise and Fall of the Third Reich is inches thick but a great read so far.
But it looks like you're looking for a quick solution, what do you have in mind? There's not really just one book on WWII, as there's more than just the actual fighting. There's the politics, the holocaust, the economic side of things, etc.

A World At Arms: A Global History of World War II By Gerhard L. Weinberg
This book is FUCKING GIGANTIC. I used it constantly when I took in A.P. Classes it covers everything.
I know how multi-faceted it is, and how amazing different perspectives are. But I'd just like to know more, but not be a "buff."
