Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows - Part 2, 48 hours away!
Everyone knows what happens in these books/films, so I'm not gonna bother with a plot synopsis. Also, there will be unboxed Deathly Hallows spoilers in this thread.
Our Heroes:
Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter, Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley, Emma Watson as Hermione Granger
Our Villain:
Ralph Fiennes as Lord Voldemort
Additional Cast:
Bonnie Wright as Ginny Weasley
Evanna Lynch as Luna Lovegood
Matthew Lewis as Neville Longbottom
Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid
Tom Felton as Draco Malfoy
Helena Boham Carter as Bellatrix Lestrange
& Alan Rickman as Severus Snape
The Deathly Hallows is being split into 2 films: the first was released November of last year, and the second on 15 July 2011. They are directed by David Yates, who also directed the previous two films.
You know what I want from this movie? At the end of the last one, when the credits roll for the last time; they show us pictures of the kids as they looked in the first movies next to pictures of how they looked at the end.
Because goddamit we have been watching these kids grow up infront of our eyes for 10 years now.
It would be nice to see them and compare.

The sky was full of stars, every star an exploding ship. One of ours.
I want them to skip the epilogue because it really was kind of bleh.
Oh you know there's 0 chance of that happening. C'mon.
Maybe they'll slip it in at the end of the credits so decent human beings can escape before it's on screen?
Don't destroy my hope again, reviews of the Avatar movie have already done that once today.
Yeah, it looks good. I wonder what the cut off point for part one is? It looks like they at least get as far as The Silver Doe.
My guess is
Part One ends with the escape from Gringots. That will afford the film a climax with the escape / dragon flight. Then they land, Harry looks to the horizon, stormclouds gather, and he whispers "Now, to Hogwarts."
I wasn't expecting the trailer to be for both parts, so when the opening in the Forbidden Forest was thrust upon me I was like "wha? WHA?" I have high hopes that these films will benefit from being able to breathe a bit, and the result will be a film that isn't terrible, but I recognize that its probably just as much a cash grab as it is the director wanting a bit of room to breathe.
It's funny, Harry is in the Pantheon of kind of terribly obnoxious characters that awesome things are built around. He and Buffy are the patron saints of that category.

Based on the book that sold a vast amount of copies despite being really only kinda OK at best! We bring you the most overrated movie series of all time, which single handedly stops development on all other fantasy products.
Yes, Harry Potter and the preordained sequence of events which means Harry could never lose or was ever in any danger at all is not exactly my favorite book series. Still, I'm sure others will find it and it's movies just dandy.

Yes.
Harry also tortures people and gets away with it.
Not that I like morally pure protagonists or anything. But the way he treats Ginny and the reaction by the other characters to his casting Cruciatus is just weird.

I think that destroying the locket makes more sense. Harry has just gotten away from nagini, and ron makes his triumphant return. It still leaves the kidnapping, Gringotts heist, and and the castle to go.
Plus, that way you can just copy Fellowship scene for scene! :P

Yates work on the series has been a little flat to me, much like a dark mirror of Columbus's work on the first movies.
It's like, each individual element will be nicely rendered, but the overall composition is disjointed and lacks punch as anything other than a lesser companion piece to the books.

I think it will end with
their capture by Greyback and the snatchers.
It's a nice cliffhanger and a natural break.

Helena Bonham Carter was a really good choice for Bellatrix
just remember, where helena bonham carter is...
her husband is sure to follow
and where he husband is.... well you know the rest what?! what do you mean alan rickman was fired? who is he going to be replaced with?
oh shiiiiiiiiiiii
You know, I always thought that a good half way break would be
Dobby's funeral. Unfortunately, I don't remember exactly what is before their accidental visit to the Malfoy (Lestrange?) manor, so I don't remember the major plot point here.
I honestly stopped watching after the third once I saw that the fourth would be a generic follow through again, but the seventh book is going to translate incredibly well to the screen (which is why I think that they're making two movies in order to cover absolutely everything.)
I wish they would get Peter Hannan to do directory of photography for the last two (he did prisoner of azkaban).
I can't say I was very happy with the way they ended Goblet of Fire and I wonder if that was Steve Kloves's (writer) doing or someone else. They took at "oh god the worst wizard is back from the dead is going to fucking kill us all" and somehow made it into a happy "we are all in it together" ending. I hope none of those sorts of shenanigans go on with the last two movies.

The problem is that a lot of the first half of the book is nothing fucking happening. It's really only after
Dobby dies that the story picks up. Personally, that is my favorite part of the whole series; it just does such a beautiful job of showing how much Harry Potter means to some of the people in this world, that he actually is a personification of hope. So that Dobby sacrifices himself and his final words are "Harry Potter" is just so...god, it was so fantastic in the book.
They had better not cut that. I know that Dobby was a bit weird in the movies...but...it's such a powerful scene which really shifts the entire direction of the narrative. The whole first half Harry is just completely indecisive...but after dobby dies in his arms the entire tone of the narrative shifts.
Dividing the movie into two parts will require that each part has a natural story progression of beginning, middle, and end. I doubt that they would make a part one which ends before any of the significant fights / battles occur. They're not going to make it
Part One: Exposition
Part Two: OH MY FUCKS THIS IS AWESOME
Something is going to have to happen in Part One other than "and they were chased somewhere else."
That started off interesting and then turned horrible very, very quickly.

I agree with you, but they will just have to build up some of the other parts to make them a bit more grandiose.
The Harry/Ron falling out, the sword from the lake, the escape from Godricks Hallow, Harry visiting his old house, The escape from the Deatheaters and Lovegood's etc.
Those are all things that could be built up to make the first part more interesting. I do agree with you about
Dobby
Though and it makes me sad he's been left out of the films so much that it will blunt the scenes impact.

I really liked The Deathly Hallows as an end to the series because of the story of the Deathly Hallows and the perspective it gives on the theme of death in the series. I have a feeling I'm going to be disappointed and it will be written out of the script just like the Half Blood Prince was to make way for more arguments about facing Voldemort.
That started off interesting and then turned horrible very, very quickly.
I want to stop reading it. But the damned things the equivalent of a train full of blind orphans blindsiding a bus full of nuns AND a semi truck full of penguins for the zoo.
It's so horrible I want to turn away, but also so terrible that I can't.

I liked the 3rd movie, though. That one was good.
