I lost my second game (2nd place) because I didn't realize we were racing to 90 stars. I thought it was all the stars for some reason. I had amassed a huge force that I did nothing with while we were playing tag on any easily conquered stars.
My first game is just slowly building a legion of ships.
I'm confused about if being GMT time would give me an advantage or a disadvantage. Means I'll be asleep when US people are making their moves, right?

My sleep schedule is erratic. I make moves in this game at times people don't expect me to. It's actually played out to my advantage a lot.
Speaking of, because of the manner I've organized my defense in my current game, the guy I've been in war with has stopped his advances and mobilized a 300-ship strong fleet which he's sending in solo. My speed tech is higher than his, so throughout the night I'm pretty much going to whittle his fleet down within a couple of planet jumps, and be able to go back on the offensive. One of my allies also launched his offensive (finally).

Oh shit, I tripped everyone's paranoia-balls and made the three-super powers in my game turn on each other. ALL OF THEM THINK I'M THEIR ONE AND TRUE FRIEND.
I've picked my ally to cruise to victory with though.
One of the super-powers, upon learning he's been turned on (he was doing the same thing I am, trying to ally with everyone), sent me tech, wished me luck, and instructed me to attack the guy who turned on him. Which happens to be the guy I'm forming my alliance with full-time.
Maybe the title should be changed to reflect there's a change to get in on a free game with PA dudes? The game would be amazing with the full 16 people.
I think a new thread should be in order if this one's OP doesn't respond.

I'd be up for it... Already preparing for awesome amounts of backstabbing and treachery from you guys!
This game wouldn't count towards the limit of 2 different free games at once right?
No, this is a premium game, it doesn't take up your free-play slots.
TIPS TO NEW PLAYERS:
- Be wary of setting garrisons on a star (how many ships must remain there despite carriers coming through). However, garrisons can be useful in setting up defenses. Garrison settings CAN screw with ship transfers and carriers leaving the star.
- Use the "find cheapest" tool when you're on a star's menu to find the cheapest economy / industry / science upgrades. E, I, or S. This will bring up a list of stars you control, ranked by cheapest to most expensive upgrades in whichever categorizing you choose.
- Be wary of where you establish your industry, economy, and science. If you build up a strong economic planet on your border, your enemy can swoop in for quick cash.
- To elaborate on the previous tip, remember; your enemy captures a star, they can use the industry and science you spent money on.
This game counts as one of your free games, not as a premium game. So either keep one slot open, or be prepared to create a new Google account to play this game.
Also, you can set up to 5 aliases on your account. So even if you've already signed up as JimDandy96, you can create a new alias for your forum name and join the game as that alias.

This counts toward a free game? FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK oh I have a free game slot open.
So hey my current game sorta had a disaster; I plotted my fleets to make attacks, and then I came home to see that one of the destinations was captured by my ally; our fleets fought, mine won. I sent an overly-worded apology as well as some extra tech. I hate when that shit happens.
It was sorta my fault; I made a jump that was up to the brim of my scanning range so I wasn't able to see what kind of inbound fleets there were.
I started playing, but it seems like a really cool game having read through the entire thread.
I wouldn't playing if you'll have me. Thanks for the tips!

So my primary ally sent me a scanning upgrade today that opened my eyes to something way important.
Cyan, the guy who is fighting a 3-front war almost effortlessly, started with a huge advantage over everyone; the cluster of stars surrounding his home star are really high in resources, so he was able to expand on things cheaply and thus quickly. He's holding his own for now against me and my ally, and my other ally has yet to make a push despite routing his ships into position. If all three of us actually push on this guy we can take him out, but right now it's a fuckin' stalemate and frustrating.
All the stars in my sort of territory that are high in resources are spread out. One of them is in the very north point of the galaxy, away from everything. Gathering ships from there is a pain in the ass.
One thing I hate about free games is that the starting locations are completely unfair, specially when 2 or 3 people decide to become inactive after a day. This one game I started in the middle of the map with 2 players to the north (that got about 18 stars each) and one to the east. All 4 players to the south went inactive except for one (purple), so he grabbed 80 (out of 88 stars for victory) without EVEN HAVING TO FIGHT A SINGLE TIME while I was forced to grab 40 as fast as possible and then wipe out one of the northern players and once I start fighting the other (he was pretty weak, 100 vs 500 ships) the southernmost player starts attacking me and my ally... With my 40 planets, I had been able to get 90 economy and 90 industry in a week or so... Purple already had 140 economy and 200 industry due to the huge size of his empire... Needless to say, I'm getting owned. Purple is 2 stars away from victory... And I can't keep this up for much longer.
I've never played before, but... I'll join. And probably get raped in about a day. BUT WHATEVA!
E: didn't realize you needed 10 credits to join a game, looks like it's free games for me for a while.
AE: Looks like it's a free game when the game gets more players so i can start.

Reminder: Make sure you keep a free game slot open.
My current ongoing game is going great; cyan, the guy we've pounced on, has been crippled badly. He's lost a ton of his ships (half of them to me, but I've lost a lot of my power in the process). One of the remaining small players has taken it upon himself to start a land grab on cyan. Frankly, I'm not going to allow for it. I'm making huge leaps to start taking a fight to that guy.
As for the remaining two super-powers, I chose wisely; my more permanent ally is still stable and strong, the other is handling his research oddly. He has more science facilities and money than I do, but he's fallen behind compared to me on everything. The only thing he does have on me is ships. Like, a fuckton of them. At any rate, I'm not sure I can allow for him to catch up to my progress. If I can convince my ally to lead the attack and I do support, we can take him. I already promised my ally I'd take 2nd place without any complaint and I'll help him to 1st place.
As for game parameters, I'm thinking 1 or 2 pays a day (anything more and the game starts requiring way too much attention for what it is) and 500 starting dollars. The standard 250 seems a little light. The nice thing about 2 pays a day is that one misspent moneypile doesn't screw you. The nice thing about 1 pay a day is that one misspent moneypile screws you. Use bombs wisely!
I've set it for 12 players, but we will begin as soon as either 12 players join or the 10 people listed at the top of page 4 join up.
Game settings:
- 1 pay / 24h: I learned in another game that upping this ALSO ups the game speed, so research happens twice as fast, ships travel twice as fast, etc. The game gets pretty unmanageable really quickly, and sucks a lot of the diplomacy and backstabbing away.
- Alliances enabled: For $50 you can share your vision with someone and make it so that if they land on your planets, they don't get blown away. However, this only works ONE WAY, so if you want to land on HIS planets, then HE has to drop the $50 as well. Keep in mind this makes you a big flashing target for anyone else, and RIPE for backstabbing later, since your "ally" can see everything you own.
- 24 stars/player: A fairly large without being insane galaxy.
- Plentiful natural resources: Because frankly, starting with shitty planets sucks balls.
The name is "Starcadia", and the password, as always, is "wang".

Once the game shows up as joinable, I'll be there... What galaxy type did you choose?
Random Star Field annoys me since you never know if the starting locations are going to be fair (most probably not), but whatever, I guess that's the spirit of the game... Starting right in the middle of 15 other players that all decide to eat you for breakfast!

And that happened in my current free game. I think only two people are active though.

By the way, outside the game and forum I'm going to be keeping a sort of log of things going on, and when our game finishes I'll do a series of write-ups describing the experience.
Not keeping this a live-update thing because that could give away shit I'm doing.
At any rate, it'd be rad if in those postings I'll be doing in like a month if people add their observations or things I didn't know.

Sure. One of the funnest things about this game is being able to talk about it, as you anticipate scenarios, build traps and plan your moves.
I am also a big fan of random star maps because when they work out in your favor, it is the best.
