also fuck you for having a monopoly on cable internet where i live
it's fucking great when my internet farts out every 5 minutes or so, making downloading things, watching streaming video, or playing online video games
very inconsistent
i'm so glad i pay you for this service
i'm also glad you allow me to say very rude things to a poor innocent call center duder
i literally am tempted to move to somewhere i can get fios or some other cable provider after the absolute fuckfest my wired internet connection has been the last couple of days
The worst part is, the if you're one of the companies that doesn't have comcast or verizon and basically has one single tiny little company to handle everything, they're often even shittier.
The best areas are the ones where there are several companies vying for the same customers.
I have Verizon for my cell phone company too though but I don't get reception where I live, so I don't use my cell phone often enough to know how to do more than make a call.
Lately, though I have problems with my connection too. It just spikes to 800 ping or other stupidly high numbers (I've seen my pings against local servers that are around 2000+) I called them a bit ago and they fixed it but I guess it's back again. Just not enough for me to get mad enough and call them up again.

We might lose the internet and cable soon if my dad can't find work.
i called them like ten minutes ago, told them about my problem (intermittent drops in connectivity on a wired connection) and they said something to the effect of "lol your house got no problems dawg" so i asked if i could get someone out here to check it or something
"earliest we could do that would be august"
and then i beat that call center receptionist into a pulp
I use AT&T, and so far it's been fairly alright. Had an issue for a bit where the network wouldn't be identified by computers trying to connect, but 20 minutes with a really nice customer service dude fixed it.
Kinda wanna try Clear Wireless. Had a friend that swore by it.

Christ man I probably would end up just moving. I don't know if there's competition here but I "solved" my problems with a simple phone call.

Australia has the worst internet, and it's pretty much dominated by one company who suck terribly. Before I moved to the city I was paying $90 a month for 5GB of downloads at about 2Mbps if I was lucky. Five gig.
And the USB modem cost me $400 because I only signed up for a 12 month contract, instead of the 36 month contract which would have made it free. But I knew I was getting horribly ripped off and didn't want to commit to that.
it has been happening here (central Maryland) as well. every hour it seems like the connection is lost and I need to manually reset my modem or wait the 15 mins for it to do it automatically.

okay
this makes me a bit relieved knowing it's not just me
because this is basically my problem exactly and huff puff i am mad
Oceanice Time Warner Cable is decent here. Sometimes internet just randomly drops though which sucks. Happens about once a day for 3-5 minutes.
Oh god I hate Time Warner Cable.
Their LA Yelp entry is the best.
Well I am also on a millitary installation so maybe they try harder when they could lose a big millitary contract.

It's too bad you can't somehow acquire super-high-speed internet outside the regularly structured payment system.

And in Bloomington IN, more than usual the last couple of days. Although, I've had off work the last few days, so it may just always be this awful and I just happen to be at home.
Only one minor issue with Comcast when I first signed up, something went all screwball on their end and they were charging me for my cable and "business cable" whatever the fuck that is, so I contacted their dude on Twitter and got a call from a CS rep and it got fixed and I was credited the amount.
I have comcast; they do suck. A couple days ago my dad's internet connection kept going slower and slower to the point that we couldn't do anything on the internet. and it wasn't just one computer either. it was my Dad's work computer, the home computer, and my laptop.
I have comcast for my cable and att for my internet. Comcast is okay, except they're pretty damn expensive. Their representatives have always been very courteous to me and I've never had any real problems with the service.
ATT on the other hand can go straight to hell, with their hidden fees, asshole customer service people, and intermittent outages. Oh, and the fucking wireless router they charged me a bajillion dollars for which died on the day after the warranty expired. The person at the call center was all "Oh. That bites." YES. YES IT DOES
I have similar problems here in Canada. Sometimes my internet connection will just die for hours. Primus is great since they give you unlimited bandwith, but their service sometimes sucks.

the ones can get stuck in those, and the zeros slip right through, going slow
nope. at first i thought there was a problem with the wi-fi connection to my laptop; but then a couple seconds later i hear my dad in his office throwing a tantrum about how slow the internet connection was. I don't know what caused it to happen but my dad ended up calling comcast. I didn't listen in to the telephone conversation because it took forever for him to try and get a hold of someone at comcast.
Say whatever the hell you like about comcast, they can't beat cox communications for sheer unadulterated shittiness
And apparently I can't get DSL from verizon, embarq, or ANYONE at my address even though I live in Las Vegas which isn't exactly Bumfuck Idaho in terms of loneliness
Nope, stuck with cox's bag-o-dix cable modem arhghghgh
The local cable company around here boasts completely free HD. No charge for hardware, broadcasting, nothing. I couldn't find anything on the website but I might call them up tomorrow to figure out what the catch is.

Five days and several of their network engineers later, "oh lol they changed your IP on you."
Thanks, douchebags.
