Hey yall ever heard the term "Immersive sim" used as a genre descriptor for this game?

Because this was news to me. IT also strikes me as a terrible descriptor of the game.

to be honest i would pay full retail price if a game dev took Deus Ex, made a new campaign with the same engine but with the same flawless multiple choice design and polish, voice acted it with the original actors, and released it as a new game.

It's pretty standard. Here's a search for "immersive sim" on Rock, Paper, Shotgun, for instance.

Well, some skills are much better than others, but it's usually pretty obvious. There's no real reason to save them, either.

Reaching Master in a weapon skill will make you a god with that weapon if you're going the combat path. Computers is also very useful. Electronics and Lockpicking are only so-so; there's plenty of multitools and lockpicks around, so I usually just take one rank in each of them and call it good.

There are so many different paths that its impossible to really tell you whats worth it and whats not.

For what its worth, the general consensus on what is easiest to get as a new player is Lockpicking and Electronics to Advanced, Rifle to Master (that covers the assault and sniper rifles), Computer to Advanced (allowing you to hack turrets), and then with any other points left over, either max Lockpicking and Electronics or if you'd prefer an extra weapon option, Pistols. I usually also nab one level in Swimming. The difference between Untrained and Trained is pretty high, costs only 675 SP and there are a couple of parts where you can't get through Untrained without a ton of rebreathers. There's always other paths you can take but I like coming up from water.

Grrk, I linked to it because RPS is so obviously the best in PC journalism that I thought they would be the best example. They're far from the only ones that use it, and the whole term was coined by Ion Storm Austin (the Deus Ex guys...) in the first place.

    DLC is already confirmed.

Lets hope it's not day 1 premium DLC...

Is there any word on what this means? Personally, to me, that is not a good sign. I was hoping for a completely self-contained title, pure single-player, no need for some garish multiplayer and extras on the end of it.

Given the way other games go about it, I imagine we get some awful "SUPER DUPER STEALTH MEGA GUN!" with a one-time activation key, or some additional chapters added after release. The latter meaning the story probably won't feel so good, being compartmentalized and not contained.

I'm weary about DX3, but I know I'll be getting it. I have to. I missed the original DX, and have spent the past decade playing the demo (although I am hoping to get the Complete pack one of these days). I do love the art direction, although I am put-off by how advanced it seems compared to DX1 (which I try to handwave with gaming limitations of the time). More AA, and less washed out, this is going to tickle every visual fiber of my being.

Certainly, DX3 will be just be a better game than IW. I remembered not thinking IW was a good game compared to DX, but an alright game on its own. I just tried the demo, for the first time in half a decade, and this is... this is just awful. It isn't even good as a non-DX game. Yuck.

New cinematic trailer from TGS in which Rihanna plays a gun-wielding cyber assassin.

Anyone else think the bit at the end with the ships is (DX spoiler)
setting up the sub base that JC infiltrates towards the end of DX?
After seeing all of these awesome cinematic trailers, I think I'd be perfectly fine with them releasing DX3 as an animated movie. I've moved on from "cautiously optimistic" to "really looking forward to this."

I'd just like to remind everyone that IW had an awesome rendered intro for the era.

Not saying this game will be a repeat of that, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up.

Wary would be the one. Its like when I was a kid, and I couldn't spell sorcerer, so I'd always end up with soccer.

Then again, maybe that was what I meant. Certainly, I could be tired of DX3, given that I'm pretty unimpressed with it, still.

I mean, from the trailers, it looks like it'd be a pretty neat movie. That one gameplay trailer didn't exactly show gameplay in any context, though. The feature list so far isn't doing anything for me. I dare say that I'm less than cautiously optimistic.

Also, if I continue being a negative Nancy, I can come back screaming "I told ya so, neener neener!", should things go sour with the game. Which is probably the most important thing.

The new trailer is pretty hot, but more importantly it got me listening to the song from the original on loop over and over and over again. I've probably spent about an hour to an hour and a half today listening to that 3 minute song. It's very good! The fact that the guy who wrote it is also doing the rest of the game's music makes me extremely happy.

The current TGS trailer sparks some very interesting questions. The rocket and him strapped to the seat, as well as the Area 51 analogue at the end.

I liked that trailer a lot. I'm going to be making tons of people commit suicide between this and TFU2. Woo! Can't wait!!

I also like someone shooting a rocket at the giant mech walker, the giant mech walker turning and shooting a rocket back at them blowing up a lot of humans, that made me laugh. :)

    Off topic like crazy:
    ...

You just reminded me that I needed to go back and re-download my favorite mod artists' music. Isotoxin, Ascent of the Cloud Eagle, When the Heavens Fall, Mechanism Eight, etc.

I used to chat with Alex B a little back in the day. His girlfriend at the time was online far more often than he was. The old #unreal days on IRC back before the game released and CliffyB hitting on my girlfriend... ahh, memories.

The 90's were so fucking good.

Alex Brandon needs to do more game soundtracks. And Necros does too.

And god damn, that trailer! This has seriously moved to my number one most wanted game. Want to know why that's crazy?

I've never [strike]played[/strike] gotten very far into the first one.
Castlevania: LoS is coming out soon, and I'm a mega CV nerd.
DR2 is out VERY soon, and the first is one of my favorite games. Ever.

I can't believe how into this game I am based simply on trailers, but something about it is singing to me, and me personally.

I don't think I have enough yawn for that. Yeah, it's an impressive enough cinematic, but this is Deus Ex and I don't give a shit about that. I want to see the gameplay, customization options, know more about how you get through the story, etc. Every time I see more cutscene footage, I can't help but think they're missing the whole damn point of making a Deus Ex game.

I'm a bit lost, myself. Is there a major list of features somewhere? So far, the only things I know about DX3 are it has a cover based combat system, third person take downs, regenerative health and seemingly good dialogue system.

It also has very nice cinematics and Jensen's voice is great.

But what other features are there/are there not? I still don't know if there is even an inventory system (I happen to be a horrible person and like block-shaped items that I can move around)?

Also, it occurred me, what with JC's name being intentionally JC, and Alex D.'s initials being AD... I feel they should have hammed it up to ensure that Jensen's name/initials were BC. That would have just been bacon flavoured icing on the pork flavoured cake.
