im making a thread about this in h/a so feel free to shit all over this if you like
but since im asking the forums for advice i figure i might as well ask
my forums
basically if you are selling shit and getting paid through paypal, is it especially safe or is it easy to get scammed
ill put up the h/a post when its done, but the short version is we are selling a car and got a suspicious response, requesting paypal as the preferred payment method
suspicious because they talk about buying the car, almost sight unseen (someone else checking the car for them), and shipping it to england, where these cars are probably cheap and plentiful (we live in australia)
also they are offshore at the moment and unable to access a bank for a transfer, hence the use of paypal
now this thing sounds a bit weird anyway, but im just wondering about paypal scams
if i get the money sent in advance, before the car is collected from me, how are they going to fuck me over
how would
you fuck me over?

Unless you are selling a million dollar Ferrari all requests to ship your car overseas is a scam
e: ooooh, misread, yeah, dont SEND the car anywhere
With that being said it does sound a bit like a scam.
I'm going to need $5,000 in legal fees to get you the money though.

Steam
OFFERS TO SHIP CARS ARE 100% FRAUDULENT
finding a company, paying shipping costs etc
i mean she says that now
few more emails and im sure shell be having some problems covering that
just best her to the punch
tell her you need to pay a withholding charge on the car and that you need $1000 by the end of the week to secure the car's export shipping papers
this is the main question
is there a chance that she could lodge a dispute, or be using stolen accounts or something that might result in paypal trying to take the money back
i think ive heard about fake disputes before, people claiming shit never arrived, or sellers getting their laptops or whatever returned and theres just some rocks in a box
i mean i only got like one or two fake ids to hide behind

He imported 3 cars, individually. So long as it was less than 3 in a ten year period, there was a legal loophole where he could claim it for personal use and avoid paying corporate importer tax rates. Because the cars were from Japan, he could also avoid GST or VAT or whatever and get a good deal. And because he imported upper-market cars (Toyota Celica, etc) the price difference between the used market for that in Japan versus here at the time meant he could drive around in a sports car for a year, and still flog it off for enough profit to pay his Uni fees and ship the next car.
He still had to have a job to pay for gas and food, though.
When I was jailed Paypal moved into my house and comforted my wife, made my kid hate me and paid some burly men to make me pick up the soap.
Firstly they are a private business that have so many loop holes in their clauses they bassically can do whatever they want (including taking money out of your credit card).
Secondly when there are disputes 95% of the time they side with the buyer.
Satans..... hints.....
i mean any unnecessary exposition during a purchase is shifty but what if a dude is like 'yea cool ill take it' and then disputes something later
pretend that instead of a car and a large sum of money you are just selling something small like back alley blowjobs
but then i guess you wouldnt use paypal for that
that iphone credit card reader would be a better solution
they've already added a couple hooks with the stated offshore complications
as you continue to respond with interest they'll throw the main hook where they need some money first

plus i just found out the initial message she got was followed by another one that was eerily similar
now im just wondering if we politely decline or get rude or string them along for a while or just ignore them
the thing with paypal mainly came because they asked us for paypal account information
just the username and email or whatever
and my mother was wondering if its safe to give that information out
i assume yes? as long as its not passwords
but she doesnt have one anyway so its moot
also wondering what they might want with that paypal info now, unless its just to say 'hey look we are gonna pay you now seriously bro'
Satans..... hints.....
i don't know anything about paypal

If you think it's a scam just drop it and move on
People use paypal for scams all the time.
