I keep getting emails saying I can resub for free for 5 days.

I think I might do it. You know...to see what's new. Not because I really want to play it, but it's free.

Also I really want to play it. If (When) I pay for a sub again I'll apply for MerchI....again. Even though I'm still a newb with a lot of skill points.

So, I'm trying out the PI stuff, it seems kinda neat. A bit low on generating isk but I don't have the more expensive command centers on planets in 0.0 (which I hear have higher concentrations of minerals/whatever). It seems like something I could easily do every day to make a bit of isk. Anyone have any tips they could share with me for it?

I'm thinking about resubbing after a long long break. I only ever played EVE for a couple of months or so, back when MerchI was still living in a low sec npc station. I had some fun times in the corp, but due to my time zone (EET) it seemed most of the action always took place when I was asleep or at work, and only a handful of people were ever online at the same time with me. Would this still be the situation, or do you have more European people playing these days?

There are euros in the alliance, dunno how many in the corp. But they do run euro time ops.

Goons have been trying to create a resurgence in their Euro TZ for some time, and as a result there are a lot more ops posted on an alliance level for those times. The majority of Eve 0.0 alliances are EU as well, so there's plenty of action with the NC.

MerchI as a whole is still predominately US tz, with only jabber being very active while we're at work. 99% of our ops are done with the alliance though, so take that as you will.

Merchi also has an Alliance Diplomat! (me) proving that even our little corp can get involved in doing some of the bigger picture stuff in the alliance.

I'm also Aussie, so yeah we do have some Austalians too!

Bought this game on Steam for $2 and I've been running through the missions and getting acquainted with the game since. I'd really like to expand my horizons so I'll be putting an application in with your Corp if you wouldn't mind another n00b pilot.

Honestly, the best way for you to learn is doing the tutorial then joining up. Yesterday I made a megathread that should make the newbie life a lot easier. However, that thread is only accessible if you're in the corp and regered on our forums

Put an app in, inject some skills, get some learning skills training and get ready to pod to 0.0 and have some real fun in Eve (assuming you get accepted). 8-)

Okay, I sent in my re-application. I don't know how long I'll stay subbed to this game but I figure since I still have goonfleet.com access I'd better make full use of it. That and being in empire alone sucks.

If you're like me, you'll get halfway through, lose a destroyer to drones you didn't expect to have disruptors and then decide that 0.0 space is cooler.

You've found us out. MerchI is actually nothing but a scam. The directors crack the whip, threatening the red pen every day if we don't meet our crockite quotas for the week. Hard working merch are brow beaten into submission so salvadore and zareph can line their greedy pockets with the fruits of 15% of our labor.

Down with the bourgeois! Death to the directorate! Deep Crows Unlimited, now is your time to shine!

Here is a sample 30 day newbie skill plan. At the end of 30 days you'll be in a ratting drake. Its in our best interest to get you into that drake pulling in solid isk so we can get fat and rich off the 15% taxes we impose.

You'll also be able to fly a salving destroyer, tackling rifter, PVP/PVE fit caracal, and ECM blackbird

I joined a rookie corp instead. The 15% for your corp is a bit too high so please disregard my application.

This is a good point - the 15% tax has made it truly difficult to acquire my space billions.

That 15% covers the fire department, the police and our socialized health care system that Brian Kenobi advocated for.

It breaks my heart seeing that two million get sent to corp every 15 minutes when I go out ratting. Merch Industrial, you are a harsh mistress.

    also i'll add this

eve online is awesome is because of the whole lose your ship, lose everything; mentality. the effort and time it takes to make an effective pvp ship makes the actual combat exciting. you really have something tangible to lose, and if you win you've made someone else lose something tangible and important. it makes pvp more than just a points game and will get your adrenaline going depending on the circumstances. this sort of environment ends up, by necessity, being an "hours of boredom, seconds of intensity" that most eve players find unbeatable in any other mmo but it can turn off other gamers looking for something less exciting but somewhat more steady in entertainment. Eve online might not be for you, but you should try one gang fight with a ship you've put together yourself and see how you feel afterwards.

I flew with Merch Industrial for about half a year; fun times were had.

My most exciting moment was warping my Stabber to a remote spot a few hundred km from a warp gate during a pitched battle, thinking that some BoB scouts would appear there soon after.

When they did show up I kicked in my microwarps and started juking as best I could while frantically typing:

    "support wwwwwwwwwwwwww to me"
    "support wwwwwwwwwwwwww"

Goon battlecruisers warped in alongside me and melted BoB's scouts just in time to save my ship.

    So cool!

Good, stay out The-Pimp. Enjoy running your missions for 80-100k ISK rewards and rats worth 20-150k each. I'm going to go prune an 8 belt system with 1.2m+ BS spawns and make 40m/hour while you gouge your eyes out at another Eliminate a Pirate Nuisance mission.

I'm going to do it in my for-cost ship that got built in corp, and my loot is going to be melted down in a perfect refines refinery and sold at above jita prices so that more at-cost ships can be built for ratters and at-a-loss ships can be built for our dudes who defend our interests.

It may cost me a little off the top, but I'll also be raking in the billion isk drops from the plexes I get to run and it always makes my day to have a newbie tag along and watch as I strut through a room with 20+ battleships and wings of smaller ships to end up with a badass faction spawn/drop at the end.

On top of taxes we also have to deal with the random passersby that come to shoot at us. Not the can-flipping I've-got-an-orca-in-system-with-combat-ships type, more the came-in-a-combat-ship type, but I've got 2000 people nearby that jump at the chance to kick dudes who violate our space in the teeth, whereas you might get lucky to get someone to warp to your wreck and shoot it before the griefer makes off with your fancy new t2 invuln field.

But, hey. At least you don't have to pay taxes, right?

So Face Lorran...is there anyone in MerchI that wants to buy him? I don't think I'll ever get back into that game very hardcore, and I'd be happy to pass off my mining/refining superstar to someone who might actually put him to use.

I understand that the tax rate would go towards maintaining infrastructure and be reinvested back into the members. And yeah, I'm sure your forays into the Eve world are fulfilling but I don't just want everything given to me with little or no effort; I would find it more fulfilling to make it on my own. I wasn't implying that the 150,000 ISK of every million I would of made would be swindled away. I thought my courteous demeanor would not imply for one to take my words personally but your unkind responses say otherwise. Thank you for reaffirming my decision.

I've never played an MMO before (and I'm not sure I even have the time to try one), but I want to say that man, the description of the recent history of Merch Industrial in the OP makes this game sound insanely great.

Edit: Also, I have heard that this game is like a 3-d and multiplayer version of the Escape Velocity series on the Mac. How true is that?
