Light Rail from Airport to Downtown

Not sure if there has been discussion about this... I did search briefly and didn't find anything...
There is a light rail train from the airport to downtown which wasn't there last year, by all accounts. It's cheap... no more than $2.50 each way. I don't think anything else can beat that.
Anyone used the light rail and can tell me if it's worth it?

It didn't take much longer, much cheaper than a taxi...now that it goes directly to the airport it's going to be even better.

I know, it's not the walk itself; that's no problem. It's the awkwardness of dragging luggage.
I seem to have the same problem. I think it would be mitigated by the fact that you are surrounded by hotels in that area, and probably won't be the only one schlepping luggage around.

Luckily, Brian & I are flying in with MNC Dover and his gf, and even though they aren't staying @ the Sheraton, hopefully they'll ride there with us (split cab fare) and meet our local friend at the hotel. Hopefully.
We did NOT ride the light rail last year because you had to take a bus from the airport to the closest station. We figured if we were getting on a bus, we might as well just take the bus downtown, so onto the 190 we crept.
Does the light rail actually pick up AT the airport now?
More or less. There's a bit of a walk, but signs direct you where to go.
either by bus or by light rail, both are great ways of getting there. please don't spend 10x more using a shuttle or 20x more using a taxi.

i'm guessing most of you don't regularly take transit.
anyway, the light rail is awesome. took it last year cause i didn't wanna spend a ton of cash on a taxi. very simple to figure out, clean and quiet.
drops you off a couple blocks from the hotel. not a big deal at all. as others have pointed out, they finally finished the extension into the airport, so you don't need to take the shuttle bus anymore.

It's a bit out of the way for 2-3 bags, to be honest. If they're heavy and without wheels it would be a bit annoying to walk all the way to the terminal.
Not crying about a couple blocks, cause I'll be walking to and from Westlake a good bit that weekend. I'd just rather not drag luggage from there to the Sheraton, considering "luggage" will include mine & Brian's portables, plus my phone, iPod, and laptop.
Eh, one of my bags has wheels and another is a backpack, so it shouldn't be bad at all. Unless Seattle blocks are really long or it's a good uphill grade the entire way (from the Sheraton).

The only issue is that the last train that goes all the way from seatac to westlake leaves at 12:10am, so it could be a push to get your luggage and make the train. You should still be able to take the bus, but I don't think there is a direct bus that goes all the way (probably have to transfer at least once)
I'm from outside the US (but will be based in CA once i get there) and i'm in it only for Friday, so I'm thinking of flying into Seattle (from CA) early morning on friday, take the light rail to the convention, mess around there till 2 when it shuts down and head back to the airport to catch the first flight out back to CA. Questions are, (i) how easy is it to get transport to the airport at 2.30 or whenever it is that the whole thing actually shuts down ? (ii) is there a better plan? and (iii) is there something i should know abt travel in the US in general (never been there before) which might be specific in this case ?

Planes get delayed with alarming regularity, the last time I took a two day trip I spent 17 hours of it in an airport due to a delayed flight, so this may not be the best idea. If you're really set on only spending the one full day, fly in Thursday and get a room share for the night - if your flight gets delayed, you won't miss all of PAX that you're planning on attending - and plan on flying out at about 5-6am Saturday morning at the earliest.

If you get in or are leaving late, there are a couple of shuttle vans that will save you a few bucks over a cab. Airport Express is $27 round trip. The Gray Line is $25 round trip but only goes to a few specific hotels, but will at least get you a couple of blocks from the Sheraton. A cab is about $35 each way, so unless you're in a group of four the shuttle vans are the way to go.

It's actually a pretty lengthy ride-since there is only one it kind of wraps around all of Southern Seattle but it's worth it for the city views alone.
Unless it is something specific to the light rail (which I realize your earlier posts were), you will probably have better luck getting answers about your general travel and planning questions there.
