    Digging around I found this which says:
    A finished Alien Swarm map must have 8 info_player_node entities for the marines to spawn at. While building you might want to just use 1, so you can easily move it around the level to test different parts without having to run across the map each time.

    Perhaps they didn't cut out 8 player co-op?

    That's nice. I think it might be a good idea to tie the server(s) to the general PA group rather than the game specific group. That will show the server(s) to all PA people that play the game and not just the ones in the game specific group.

    It's something that was introduced in Left 4 Dead and looks like will be in this game too.

    In the "Console" tab you can enter "sv_steamgroup <n>" where N is the ID of your chosen Steam Group. Players belonging to this group will see your dedicated server from the main menu. You can find your ID number by visiting your Steam Group admin page on Steam Community.

    In Left 4 Dead you can either join a Steam group server directly or pick one when making a lobby. I assume it'll work the same way in this.

    I've never been too great with Hammer, but I was a fucking beast in with the Build editor for Duke3D. Hah.

    Looking at that, if it really is as simple as creating themed tiles with various end cap positions, and then ordering them between insanely designed rooms filled with pre-fabs.... I'm getting wood just thinking about it.

    Likely that's just old info left in there from the development that they haven't had time to clean up yet. I wouldn't trust all the details in there.

    That's all I can figure. In releasing this game for free there has to be some motive; i.e. new network architecture testing...maybe they're gonna toy with FTP games with microtransactions over steam..something. I'm too cynical to believe it's just out of good will.

    That's not a complaint. I mean Valve already had my undying devotion but this is just icing on the cake.
