Video conversion conundrum

Hi everyone - Quick video conversion question for you all, because I feel like I've tried everything, and I have positively no idea how to proceed on this. To begin, I should note I'm doing all of this on an OS X machine, so I'm looking for an OS X solution, if possible.

I have quite a few OGM files that I'd like to convert to MP4 or AVI files so that I can view them on my PS3. These videos all have soft subtitles, though the subtitles are a part of the OGM file itself. If I view the OGM file in VLC on my OS X machine, everything works out fine provided that I manually select the subtitled track that I want to view. Note that the subtitles aren't in a separate file - I assume they're within the OGM file itself, though I'm not terribly knowledgeable about this stuff.

I had marginal success using MKVTool to convert a few of the OGM files into AVI files. It let me select the right video and audio streams, and then select the subtitle track that I wished, and then hard-burned them all into an AVI. It worked great, until MKVTool decided that it didn't like a bunch of my OGM files, and started returning applescript errors (Can't divide 1.907456E+6 by zero. (-2701)). I've tried looking into other conversion programs, but they don't seem to handle the subtitles at all. Handbreak and AlltoAVI both converted the video files, but they did so at a reduced quality, and they couldn't hard-burn in the subtitle track, or even recognize that a subtitle track existed.

Can anyone advise on how to most efficiently convert an OGM with subtitles to an MP4 or AVI that has those subtitles hard-burned into the file? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm afraid the only thing I can suggest is to try using VLC. Media > Convert/Save. It has a "use subtitle file" option, but I don't know how it works.
