NiMH rechargeable AA batteries last significantly longer than their non-rechargeable counterparts on a charge so they're a necessity in digital cameras. I use Energizers but I'd imagine any name brand work just as well. You can probably get a charger and 8 batteries for less than 50 bucks online. Pay attention to the mAh rating. The higher the number, the longer they'll last on a charge. I'd go for 2500mAh or higher.
I have the Rayovac 15 minute recharger and about 12 batteries. They usually last in my wireless Xbox 360 controller for a week, with heavy usage, and then if I forget to charge and they run out while in a game - boom, 15 minutes later they are fully recharged.

Note the higher the mAH rating, the longer they last.
