Good webcam software?

The default webcam software on my laptop is rather terrible. I'd like some recommendations for good alternatives. I don't really mind something a little ugly as long as it is functional. Recording videos and taking pictures is all I really need to do but any extras are fine by me. Hot keys for starting and stopping recording and taking pictures would be great as well.

So what do you all use?
